@matseng @samsoniuk @duke_cpu I'm from France tho. And I believe CPU Duke is from EU too. I can make panoramas if you are interested and not in a hurry.

@samsoniuk @duke_cpu @TICS_Game The shipping costs from me to US would exceed what it would cost to get one from ebay locally there instead ($15-$20 each). But I should open one myself and have a peek, I guess it's a hybrid with just an IC or two, a crystal and a couple of capacitors.

MC6871 - sounds like a Motorola CPU peripheral IC, but these are oscillators (a bit larger than the ones you commonly see) having two-phase clock outputs at both TTL and CMOS levels and some hold inputs. At 50 cents a pop I couldn't help myself getting some. 😋 #retro

Some possible issue for reverse engineering, as interference can be too distracting on some chip. So not a perfect solution for all cases. This is less an issue with short wavelengths (blue / violet / UV), higher numerical aperture, water immersion, oil immersion.

The Nikon CF Plan EPI objective is a simple achromat with relatively low performances (high lateral CA, uncorrected blue wavelengths), but with narrow band illumination details are as good than with an apochromatic objective.

@phratzke In fact the sharpness is lower with the white LED but the narrow band RGB illumination is causing so much interference that in the end the die is barely readable. But yeah, I prefer the white version a lot more too. Will have to image this one again with a 10x.

The sample is a chip I lapped last year. A very good candidate for WLSI (Scanning White Light Interference). Sadly the dirty mirror kinda ruin the result. Here an image of an empty wafer (clean piece of silicon) to see the issue.

I acquired a Michelson objective but there is an issue: the reference mirror is dirty. Blowing clean dry air didn't help much. Any experts that can help? Or is there no simple solution? I assume we are talking about a first surface mirror with very precise flatness.
