Two correctional officers in Galveston have been relieved of duty over sexual assault allegations involving incarcerated women. I was interviewed in this story. Yet, unfortunately, this isn’t new. This is what we’ve been warning about. Abuse thrives where there’s silence, lack of oversight, and unchecked power. On Holocaust Remembrance Day, we pause to remember the six million Jews and millions of others who were systematically targeted, imprisoned, and killed under a regime that normalized dehumanization. While we do not compare today’s systems to the Holocaust, we do carry forward its central lesson: when a society accepts that some lives are less worthy, unspeakable harm becomes possible.
