I used to work for commercial aircraft company back in the 1990s. Executives asked for a list of possible features we could add to the aircraft to make them sellable in the future. I suggested adding USB ports to every seat back. The response was, “nobody needs their own power port at their seat. Blackberries and Nokias have batteries. The commercial aircraft division went out of business in 2000.

Not being heard / listened to by executives is the story of my life. And yep later you see others implement your ideas. Every. Fucking. Time. It’s like corporations only value mediocrity unless there are people in leadership actively seeking out the good ideas, whether they come from some hot shot or from some low level employee. So I think this is the plan: sell the car with removable steering wheel and pedals at first with the promise that it will eventually become a robotaxi. People who buy it at first will have access to some kind of perk...maybe free FSD for as long as the car can't drive itself...or some other incentive. Until then, it will just be an affordable 2-seater. This will allow Tesla to sell their early production as the ramp increases slowly, and buy time.

@niccruzpatane People who don't drive EVs don't know how many chargers there are around them. Signage isn't necessary, because the cars tell you where the chargers are.

Ford CEO Jim Farley thinks the EV charging infrastructure isn’t there yet, which is why Ford is focusing on building E-REVs (hybrids): “For vehicles for short distance, and most of our lives are, you know, commuting or going the store, an EV is perfect. It's actually much cheaper to own—even in California, where electricity prices are expensive. As Americans in California, we drive long distance too, and the charging isn't there yet, as much as the (Tesla) Supercharger Networks are great. We have a lot of work to do. In the meantime, there's a lot of exciting technologies coming where it can do both, E-REV is a good example. An electric vehicle that drives an electric vehicle, but has a gas tank and a combustion engine, but it's an industrial engine— super efficient. So you can go 700 miles on a tank of gas and 90% of your trips are all electric, it doesn't have a transmission, it doesn't have a driveline, it's much lighter than a PHEV or a hybrid, and it works great. I think what we found is that— until the infrastructure catches up, until we're used to charging on the road, companies like Ford have to give customers a choice.”
