@michael___wave I always find it really silly because even marx (fwiw) knew that bigotry is used and encouraged in order to divide workers (I think he wrote something about how the English are useless because they hate Irish people so much)

and you can tell when someone is actually interested in this because they say “instead of corporate trans awareness days, let’s organise for labour protections for people who change gender at work”. bigots who’ve read marx just want to do the lefty war on woke

note that in no part of this do they define what “woke” is. is it pinkwashing corporate hr initiatives that don’t really help much? or is it protecting the civil rights of the entire, diverse working class? well reader, that’s conveniently left up to you…

My new big TERFism explainer is now online and unpaywalled at Lux magazine, and the physical version in print looks incredible. (I do recommend buying the issue or subscribing.) Thanks to Sarah Leonard & all the comrades at @readlux for wonderful editing. lux-magazine.com/article/terf-i…

@josecalderon Mentoring is good but tricky to arrange (as you mention). It might be helpful to have some sort of community of newbie volunteers to help them feel less isolated, and give them a chance to socialise. I feel like consistent contribution flows from connection.

@josecalderon It's tricky to estimate your own capacities and often people feel a lot of shame when they reach their limit. So it's good to normalise people struggling, not knowing everything, not having capacity to consistently contribute. And them still being a valued part of the community

In May this year, @LordPeterHendy pressured my now-former employer @SYSTRA_UKIRL to sack me by threatening them. Why did he do this? Because I'd highlighted safety and accessibility issues at Euston station. He is unfit for office and should resign. politico.eu/article/uk-rai…

the thing about “e/acc” is that it’s just a retread of the 1910s Futurist movement, except with fewer Italians and substantially worse art

One of the ends of critique is that you can get to a point of replacing vague terms like "victory" and "power" with something more concrete. For example, here they mean command over the largest capitalist economy, carceral system, and military force in human history.

People may not like it but this statement is arguably the hardest Contrapoints ever cooked. Just totally illuminates how a certain brand of person On Here thinks.

Somewhat spicy headline this time, but seeing a feature I rely heavily on get worse made me realize: it feels like "GitHub", the traditional website, is being treated as a legacy product from corporate's perspective. mistys-internet.website/blog/blog/2024…

Newsletter: Goldman Sachs has called BS on Generative AI, and I believe that it's time that everybody follows suit - generative AI is unreliable, unsustainable, requires an entire rebuild of America's power grid, and is most decidedly not the future. wheresyoured.at/pop-culture/
