In animation, moving the arm without shoulder engagement can make it look disconnected or "broken," lacking natural flow. Adding shoulder movement supports the arm, creating a more believable, anatomical motion that reflects how bodies move in real life.

𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗜𝗣❗ Don't be tempted to track perfect arcs on everything you animate. Gwendelyn roughed up the anim curves, and the result is something that feels very authentic. It's a very small moment in the film, but that only makes the dedication all the more special!

Couldn't help but notice this charming expression test with 𝗠𝗶𝗮𝗮𝗿𝗮 done by Alex Ferreira Simoes for Animation Flow. Lots of graphic lines and shapes that make the visuals very appealing to look at. Source: youtube.com/shorts/VDld8bP… Artist: @simoes30482

Find ways to make your animations 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 to the character. Don't settle for generic! There's a lot of excellent examples of the classic animation principles in this clip, but what caught our attention the most was the use of aerial silk acrobatics as inspiration!

🐈 Love to see the 𝙕𝙤𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙚𝙨 artists having fun with these characters! 🥰 📝 Animator Grayson Ducker (@GreyDuck99) was given a funny cat video as reference and inspiration and used an energy pass to really get that extra kick while putting this shot together.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝘅, their eyes are drawn to movement! 🦖 By limiting the motion of certain characters, you can control where the audience is looking to ensure your ideas come across clearly. This works better for some styles than others.
