I'm delighted to have a new short story out at Mysterion! "Her Neighbor's Keeper" is a fantasy about fairy patches, a small world-within-a-terrarium, and how we love the people we live near. Read it here: mysteriononline.com/2024/04/her-ne… @EnigmaticMirror

Lord, be thy word my rule; in it may I rejoice; thy glory be my aim, thy holy will my choice; thy promises my hope; thy providence my guard; thine arm my strong support; thyself my great reward. —Christopher Wordsworth

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a list in possession of three or more items is in want of an Oxford comma.

O Lord, from whom all good proceeds: Grant us the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may always think those things that are good, and by your merciful guidance may accomplish the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord

The writer Dorothy L Sayers was born #OTD 13 June 1893. She grew up in Bluntisham, Cambridgeshire where her bell-ringing enthusiast father was rector. The fen landscape of 'The Nine Tailors' is that of the parish, and some character names were taken from Bluntisham churchyard, though the church itself was not the model for Fenchurch St Paul. 1/3 #SteepleSaturday

Instead of a Wolverine game they should do a Beast game where Kelsey Grammer reprises the role. Also he’s not blue and he has a brother named Niles and he has to host the perfect dinner party for Seattle’s finest

There were some leftover carmelized onions in the fridge, and so I put them in some savory oatmeal for breakfast this morning. *chef's kiss* Soooo good.

From an essay that is not short on condescension towards C.S. Lewis, a moment of insight and something suggestive of understanding:

Disappointed not to see anyone pushing a small child off this bridge in order to give a friend from the Drones Club the chance to demonstrate heroism to their fiancee.

@suzania It also leaves out the element of time, which seems important to me. Often I'll write a bit, let it sit, then write a bit more, then let it sit...that can go on for quite a while, and that simmering time seems to matter. Not always, but often. Like a stew developing flavor.

A major reason that it didn’t make sense to use AI to write an essay about a substantive topic is that until you write the essay you don’t actually know what you want to say or what you think. You think you do, but it is the writing itself that actually gets the thinking done.

@DavidHein9 @ModAgeJournal It's literally my experience. When I start writing I have a topic and maybe a quote and maybe a hot take or something I'm mad about, and in the process of writing I build my ideas about it -- it actually doesn't feel like me doing it entirely.

I went to the DMV today, and I have to say that being able to make an appointment is so nice—it makes things simple and fairly quick. Something CA gets right!

I love the end of this short little poem by Sir Walter Raleigh: "And from which earth and grave and dust / The Lord shall raise me up, I trust."

Spotted outside yesterday: something spotted! (A plant that was apparently hand painted with bright polka dots. I like it!)
