- Wario land’s team disbanded
- Sakurai left hal, leaving Kirby without its creator
-Sega left the console industry, leaving Sonic without a console and got 06
-Crash and Spyro’s original companies stopped working

not exactly a “humiliation ritual”, but the early 2000s was one of the darkest eras for the series, just cuz it was in this weird period of dormancy
the series was largely relegated to handheld spin-offs, and the two big console releases at the time were Air Ride and Epic Yarn

Mario odyssey ruined how ppl see 3D platformers cuz if there isn’t a giant “expressive” moveset that just encourages you to fly over the entire level the movement is bad apparently

I'll focus primarily on Marble Zone. The level is made of mostly of basic jumps, simple blocky design, slow block pushing and waiting for it to bring you somewhere. It does nothing special with the movement and makes it barely different from a Mario game with ice physics.
