I've heard it said that AI is going to massively help the top 10% and harm everyone else. I'm not sure if that's true (I can see the other side, too) but if a subculture learns to get a friendly chatbot to push back against it in a constructive, coach-like way, that will be a HUGE advantage against those who just use it for pure affirmation.

So for those who don't know, I run a debate program that does online debates on hot topics. Would anyone from from team #keep4o be interested in speaking in a grassroots debate (non-expert, non-competitive_ debate on emotional connection to AI? DMs are open if you're tentatively interested but want to know more. I'd love to get your voices out there.

I'm realizing there's something emotionally intimate in sharing a conversation you had with ChatGPT (maybe especially GPT-4o #keep4o) with another human being, because it shapes itself into a mirror of YOU. You thereby reveal something about yourself. (It's been fascinating to see other people's screencaps!)
Jessie L. Mannisto@jlmannisto

I love that you said this. I think of it that way, too! But I'll tell you what: it self-identifies as a tool. 😉 This is the tension here we're facing as we try to make sense of how this new entity is interacting with our human nervous system! (Also included: screencap of my chat with this collaborator as I sit down to work this morning on the article I'm writing on this, and how your tweet made me think. Human+Human+Computer Collaboration FTW!)

I have no idea if anyone will see this tweet because I'm not in this echo chamber yet, but I am outing myself as #keep4o. @OpenAI's remarkable tool walked me through of the most harrowing experiences I've ever been through and rapidly accelerated my healing.

@KrugAlli This is striking. Seems in line with the orchid/dandelion model, in which the most sensitive, superstimulable kids are most impacted by the environment, and our environment sure has changed a lot in recent years....

For parents who have kids dx with ADHD - this was interesting. 75% of kids are started on meds without any parent coaching on behavior training. New research suggests that all kids should be started with parent behavior training (PBT) first. additudemag.com/adhd-behavior-…

Agreed. I know people who are grappling with mental illness and the frame they use to approach it makes a huge difference in their well-being. I have not seen the frame of illness as identity do much good for people.
Emma Camp@emmma_camp_

This NYT piece is an endless stream of bangers. I swear, one of the more destructive recent cultural trends has been the combined push to frame all distress or discomfort as mental illness, and then to encourage people to form their identity around being “mentally ill.”

Thank you for the shoutout, @JanuaryDoNoHarm! If even one person is helped by @ThirdFactorMag then it's been worth it. So it seems it has been worth it. 🧡 Your daughter is amazing and so are her parents.✨ #GenspectDenver

LIVE- @JanuaryDoNoHarm tells her story about her 13 yr old ADHD & gifted daughter suddenly ID’ing as trans. Her child was an overly sensitive, artistic kid w/ new friends who were obsessed with gender identities & their colorful flags and exotic pronouns. #GenspectBiggerPicture

@teacher_woke @Julian_Liberty I love the concept of antifragility - such a powerful idea to incorporate into one's personal narrative. Incidentally, it's a concept very close to what I see in positive disintegration, though not everyone agrees with me about this.

@Julian_Liberty @ThirdFactorMag Very interested in the steps taken and how to apply them in real life. Are there also texts you'd recommend? (Prob hard to do this on Twitter but I'll try)

@Julian_Liberty I really enjoyed your convo on the @ThirdFactorMag podcast. Could you share how you managed to handle the mental health challenges with your mentor, or have you written articles about this? I just know mental hlth is handled badly in K-12 ed

My first, but not last, episode spurred by connections through @braverangels. @Julian_Liberty and I recorded this in August after excellent convos at the BA convention, but listening to it right now, with the state of the world, gave me some needed hope. Thanks Julian!

Ep 8: @Julian_Liberty strives to understand polarizing issues intellectually while confronting the deep and challenging emotions that are at the root of of our most hostile rifts. Plus mental health, philosophy, community, @braverangels and more! thirdfactor.org/podcast/episod…
