The scale of senior officer dismissals under Secretary Hegseth — including at least two dozen generals and admirals and a 20% cut to four-star positions — is historically unprecedented. And the fact that these radical overhauls are being directed by a SecDef with the least military & government leadership experience in modern history is deeply concerning. For decades, the U.S. military has maintained its global edge through a culture of meritocracy and professional expertise. Replacing seasoned leaders with those perceived as "personally aligned" risks a permanent erosion of institutional knowledge, morale, and the nonpartisan tradition of our armed forces. The military didn't need radical changes. But even if it did, firing top military leadership while our forces are engaged in active conflicts & facing global instability seems like a really bad idea.
