This is absolutely insane: At 7:04 AM ET today, President Trump said “the US and Iran have had productive discussions" to end the Iran War. By 7:10 AM ET, the S&P 500 surged +240 points adding +$2 TRILLION in market cap. 27 minutes later, Iran completely denied all of President Trump's claims and said there has been "no contact" with the US. By 8:00 AM ET. the S&P 500 had fallen -120 points erasing -$1 trillion in market cap. That's a $3 TRILLION swing market cap in 56 minutes, just in the S&P 500. What is happening here?

A few days ago, I said that the Gulf countries made a bet, believing in the US-Israeli outlook that a victory over Iran would be quick and triumphant. These countries took a side, not only by allowing their territory to be used for attacks, but Saudi Arabia even used a tanker to provide mid-air refueling for planes on their way to strike Iran. All these countries chose a side and are collaborating with the war, but the Iranian reaction has been so strong that it has left them stunned, and now all they do is deny having any knowledge of it. The only certainty is that this war has ruined any normalization of relations between the GCC and Iran.

Wow! Trump asked the Omani FM to mediate with Iran. He was in the room, seeing how far Iran went to avoid this war. And how Trump could have chosen the deal on the table instead of choosing war. It is extremely significant that he says, "this war was not of Iran's making."

Whatever your view of Iran, this war is not of their making. This is already causing widespread economic problems and I fear they promise to get much worse if the war continues. Oman is working intensively to put in place safe passage arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump blinked first — out of a clear understanding that striking Iran’s energy infrastructure would trigger a direct and significant retaliation. As for negotiations, messages were clearly exchanged, but there’s strong reason to doubt that Iran actually conceded. This regime is unlikely to reopen the Strait without meaningful concessions from the U.S. From Tehran’s perspective, this is a notable achievement: they didn’t fold, didn’t back down, and may have forced Washington to recalibrate its objectives. For Trump, the goal now appears to have shifted — no longer regime change, but reopening the Strait. Bottom line is - the conflict isn’t over. It’s still unfolding, but a potential path to de-escalation has emerged. Still, one key question remains — if in five days Iran hasn’t reopened the Strait, it’s unlikely that threats alone will change that. Pressure without incentives rarely works. #IranWar
