Why high-line will benefit Chelsea: One of the major issues anyone with good football eyes will notice about Chelsea is how big the lines between the three departments are. It makes the defence wide open, disconnects the striker, reduces the chances of winning second balls and also makes pressing traps very difficult. At the moment we are 11th on ball recovery in the Premier League this season. We have a very good ball winner in Caicedo, who was 8th in the Premier League on ball recovery but currently 74th in the league in the same category. One would argue it's because he's playing deep but De Zerbi played him deep in a lot of games last season too. So, I will put that factor on our poor pressing shape. The space between the lines makes it hard to counter-press effectively. This makes counter-press and recoveries even more important because it catches teams when they are unorganised, especially those with low blocks. At Chelsea today, there is no destroyer in defensive midfield and that's why Caicedo is playing deep, not maximising his potential. With the profile of Enzo, Caicedo, Lavia, Chelsea won't have issues playing, winning balls and retaining possession in congested space. It will make the players a lot more proactive, create more chances from counter-press, reduce the burden on the defensive line and hide a lot of our deficiencies. I think it's worth trying.
