There are videos circulating round social media that suggest that one should stay away from people with the AS Trait or Sickle Cell Disorder. This should not be the narrative. People can create meaningful relationships or friendships without dating or marriage. #sicklecell

While we advocate for couples to know their genotype and choose compatible partners, it should not be a means to discriminate against people with the AS or SS genotype. #Sicklecellawareness #sicklecell

The highest form of currency we can give Sickle Cell warriors is love and empathy.

Instead of making unsolicited comments, it is important to ask questions like: How are you feeling today? I observed that you woke up late, what might be the reason? Is there anyway I can help? Remember that SCD presents itself in different ways and in different people.

Dear Warrior Family, We know you love us and we know you care but you need to be mindful of the words you say to warriors like: "You are too lazy, can you see your mates"? Unsolicited comments and comparison are the leading causes of depression especially in people with SCD.

A support group is a safe space with people who are going through the same journey as you are. Feel free to attend one, ask questions and share your concerns. They say a problem shared is a problem half-solver

As the engine is to a vehicle, so is the mind to the body. Take care of your mind, keep it happy and positive. •Find a buddy or someone you can share your feelings with or get a journal where you can jot your thoughts down. •Join a support group. #sicklecell
