TRACKS Youth Program

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation holds immense importance as it serves as a solemn reminder of the historical injustices and trauma experienced by Indigenous communities and other marginalized groups.

TRACKS summer programming has officially come to a close. The Trailblazers finished off their summer with presentations highlighting all their teachings they've received. Miigwetch to everyone who supported TRACKS this summer and joined us at the end of summer celebration.

Yesterday the TRACKS team got to try out rowing at the Peterborough Rowing Club. We somehow managed not to tip the boats!

Learn Anishinaabemowin with TRACKS. Wiingaashk - sweetgrass was one of the first plant planted on Turtle Island (Earth). Like sage and cedar, sweetgrass is used for smudging and purification.

Learn Anishinaabemowin with TRACKS. Dewe'igan, meaning drum. For First Nations Peoples, the drum represents Mother Earth and her universal heartbeat. To pay respect to the heartbeat of mother earth, a drum was made.

🌱Learn Anishinaabemowin with TRACKS! 🐝Aamoo meaning bee! 🌸There are many ways we can say miigwech to the bees. Such as planting native flowers and leaving stocks of dead plants for them to make their homes.

Last week the children learned about the 3 sisters garden🌽, the life cycles of the memengwaa🦋, and shkode building🔥 along with many other outdoor and Indigenous related teachings. Chi-miigwech to all the children and all the TRACKS staff who make camp great!

Who's that? Adults are on the wing from mid-June to mid-July, which is when this moth was spotted. This moth is part of the Phachysphnx Genus. The larvae of the moth love to feed on poplar, willow and cottonwood species.

Anyone know who this is? This amphibian was spotted by the TRACKS team in Minden Ontario- traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Nations. Do you think it's a frog (omagakii) or a toad (obiigomakakii)?

Wild roses (Rosa canina L) oginii-waabigwaniin are abundant in vitamin C, and are used to create teas and tonics to treat colds and coughs by the Ojibwe.
