NEW | AJ+ investigation says Israeli military medics trained on donated bodies from U.S. universities without consent An investigation by AJ+ revealed that bodies donated for medical research at two U.S. universities were reportedly used in training programs involving Israeli military medics without donors or their families being informed. According to the report, the bodies were supplied through contracts linked to the U.S. Navy and used in battlefield medical training for Israeli personnel, raising major ethical concerns over transparency and consent. Family members interviewed in the investigation said they were shocked to discover their relatives’ bodies had been used in programs connected to the Israeli military amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Israel’s foreign ministry has denounced The New York Times investigation into widespread rape and sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoners as a “blood libel”. But since October 7, Israel has barred the International Committee of the Red Cross from privately accessing Palestinian detainees. Only on May 8, 2026, after more than 2.5 years of genocide and overwhelming evidence of systematic torture of thousands of Palestinian prisoners, did the Israeli government inform its Supreme Court it would allow the ICRC back into prisons. Even then, the policy only permits tours and meetings with prison staff. ICRC representatives are still prohibited from privately interviewing prisoners, making any meaningful independent monitoring impossible. Rights groups called the move “superficial.” According to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs, Israel is currently holding around 9,600 Palestinians in its prison system, including 84 women and 350 children. At least 1,251 detainees from Gaza are being held indefinitely without charge under Israel’s Unlawful Combatants Law. About half of all prisoners are held without charge or trial. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society says at least 89 Palestinians have died in Israeli detention since October 7, including 52 from Gaza, with the true number believed to be far higher.
Israel Foreign Ministry@IsraelMFA

Today, the @nytimes chose to publish one of the worst blood libels ever to appear in the modern press. In an unfathomable inversion of reality, and through an endless stream of baseless lies, propagandist Nicholas Kristof turns the victim into the accused. Israel - whose citizens were the victims of the most horrific sexual crimes committed by Hamas on October 7, and whose hostages were later subjected to further sexual abuse - is portrayed as the guilty party. This publication is no coincidence. It is part of a false and well-orchestrated anti-Israel campaign aimed at placing Israel on the UN Secretary-General’s blacklist. Israel will fight these lies with the truth - and the truth will prevail.

💢 New Testimonies From Gaza Prisoners Detail Systematic Torture in Israeli Detention Palestinian prisoner rights organizations published new testimonies Monday from Gaza detainees held in Israel’s Naqab and Ramla prisons, describing systematic torture, deliberate starvation, and denial of medical care. Detainees in the Rakvit section of Ramla described daily beatings, guards deliberately breaking fingers as punishment, restraints tightened to cut off blood circulation, and being forced to sit on metal bed frames from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. after mattresses are confiscated. One prisoner lost feeling in both feet from beatings. Another was taken to the prison clinic after torture caused liver damage requiring surgery. Detainees are barred from praying, denied toothbrushes, and share one tissue roll among four people every two days. In Naqab prison, detainees said they have been rationing food for eight months — describing portions insufficient for a child. Widespread scabies infections persist with no treatment. Guards fire rubber bullets randomly inside sections; one prisoner was hit three times in his left foot. The Prisoner’s Club and Commission of Detainees Affairs said 1,283 Gaza detainees are held under the “unlawful combatant” classification — without charge — shielding their detention from any international oversight. Photo 1: Felesteen Online Photo 2: Institute for Palestine Studies.

💢 Hezbollah said it carried out 20 operations against Israeli forces on Monday in response to continued Israeli ceasefire violations, including the destruction of a Merkava tank, two D9 bulldozers, a Hummer, engineering vehicles, and fuel tankers across the Rashaf, Naqoura, and Tayr Harfa axes. ▪️The group also said it launched a three-stage attack on Israeli forces in Taybeh, destroying a deployment site and requiring evacuation helicopters to land to remove casualties. ▪️Hezbollah further claimed it struck Israeli troop gatherings and a newly established command center in Bayadha, shelled artillery positions in Adaisseh, and fired a surface-to-air missile at an Israeli drone over Tyre 🎥 New footage released by Hezbollah’s military media shows a rocket barrage targeting a gathering of Israeli military vehicles and soldiers in the southern Lebanese town of Al-Bayyada during an operation carried out on May 3.

“No one escaped sexual assaults… Not all were raped, I would say, but everyone went through humiliating, filthy sexual assaults”: Details on the individual cases of Palestinian prisoners abused in Israeli detention, interviewed by NYT: ▪️Sami al-Sai, a 46-year-old Palestinian freelance journalist, said guards beat him, stepped on his head and neck, stripped him naked, and tried to force a rubber baton into his rectum before one guard shouted in Hebrew: “Give me the carrots.” He said guards then assaulted him with a carrot while laughing. “It was extremely painful,” he told Kristof. “I was praying for death.” A female guard allegedly grabbed his penis and testicles and joked: “these are mine.” Al-Sai said guards later left him handcuffed on the ground during what he realized was “their smoking break.” When he was finally dumped into a prison cell, he said he discovered “other people’s vomit, blood and broken teeth” crushed into his skin. He told Kristof he believed the abuse was partly intended to pressure him into becoming an informant for Israeli intelligence. ▪️A Palestinian farmer held for months without charges under administrative detention said guards pinned him down by his arms and legs, stripped him, and raped him with a metal baton while “laughing and cheering.” Hours later, after collapsing and briefly being taken to a prison clinic, he said guards raped him again with the baton. “I was bleeding,” he recalled. “I broke down completely. I was crying.” After he asked for pen and paper to file a complaint, guards returned to his cell later that evening. “Who is the one who wants to file a complaint?” one mocked before the farmer was beaten and raped a third time. Another guard allegedly told him: “Now you have even more to put in your complaint.” Days after speaking to Kristof, the farmer reportedly withdrew permission to use his name after a visit from Shin Bet officers warning him not to “cause trouble.” ▪️A 23-year-old Palestinian woman arrested after October 7 said Israeli soldiers threatened to rape her, her mother, and her young niece during her arrest. She told Kristof male and female guards repeatedly stripped her naked, handcuffed her behind her back, bent her over toilets, beat her, and groped her body during repeated “searches.” “They had their hands all over my body,” she said. “To be honest, I don’t know if they raped me,” because she sometimes lost consciousness from the beatings. “It was as if they were introducing me to everyone who worked there,” she said. “At the beginning of each shift, they would bring the guys to strip me.” Before release, she said six officials warned that if she spoke publicly “they would rape me, kill me and kill my father.” ▪️A Palestinian journalist from Gaza said guards zip-tied his penis and testicles for hours while beating his genitals so badly that he urinated blood for days afterward. “No one escaped sexual assaults,” he told Kristof. “Not all were raped, I would say, but everyone went through humiliating, filthy sexual assaults.” He also alleged that while blindfolded and handcuffed, guards summoned a police dog that mounted and penetrated him while guards photographed the rape and laughed. “They were using cameras to take photos, and I heard their laughs and giggles,” he said. After release, he said an Israeli official warned him: “If you want to stay alive when you return, do not speak to the media.” Despite the threats, he said he spoke publicly because “there are people still in there.” ▪️Three Palestinian teenage boys detained by Israeli authorities described sexual abuse, beatings, forced nudity, and repeated rape threats directed at both them and their mothers. One 15-year-old boy told Kristof guards routinely threatened detainees by saying: “Do this or we’ll put this stick up your butt.” The boys described rape threats and sexual humiliation as routine parts of detention.
Nicholas Kristof@NickKristof

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opi…
