I’ve gotta say, we need to stop pretending that Army money is what’s going to retain talented, 20ish year technical experts in critical fields. They can get more money elsewhere. Address their other QOL concerns, or you won’t be keeping the talented ones.

@EODHappyCaptain Lots of good advice in here, but one that really helped me was from my CSM when I pinned 1SG, “leadership is not an individual event”, he told me to reach out to mentors, peers, anyone with good info to be the best I could be for the Soldiers.

Unless you are EOD. In that case be proud of your service but also be very sorry with all of your being for the movie The Hurt Locker. That movie is an unforgettable abomination. I hope all of you are truly sorry for it.

@EODHappyCaptain I only knew him for a short time at school, but it was a big loss felt across the community. IAW his wishes, his ashes were explosively scattered on the EOD range at Ft. Polk, LA. We Remember.

I never met Mike Garcia, but I was in Afghanistan when he was KIA. His death shook our community. He was my buddy’s team leader, and by all accounts a phenomenal EOD Soldier. 14 years ago, half a world away, Mike Garcia flipped a coin with another EOD Tech to see who would go on an IED call. Mike won the toss. He was happy about it. He wanted to go. I’ve never met an EOD technician who didn’t absolutely love getting to do their job. Mike was no exception. He was loved by his team, his unit, his family and friends. He never came back from that call. Michael Garcia was KIA July 4th, 2011.

Everyone talks about the songs that defined their deployments, but what songs were internally banned? @unclerobsfarm and I were sitting watching a convoy cross a dried up low river crossing one time and one of the vehicles hit an IED. We were listening to Show Me Your Teeth by Lady Gaga. It was immediately banned for the rest of deployment.

@EODHappyCaptain Dude, what I wouldn’t give to have had Rubble helping out with the pro works! Just now realizing that his little bulldozer/backhoe is remarkably similar to the old Small Emplacement Excavator (SEE) trucks that we used to have.
