Correct. And that's exactly the point. The US went in to destroy Iran's nuclear program and missile capability. Hormuz was never the stated objective, it became the crisis nobody planned for. Now it's the only thing markets care about, the only thing allies are demanding, and the only metric by which the war will be judged. The objective shifted. The exit hasn't.

This is a massive concession hiding in a headline. The entire economic case for this war was built on reopening the Strait. 20% of global oil flows through it. Brent is at $116. Analysts are warning of $200. If Trump ends the war with Hormuz still closed, he hands Iran a permanent chokehold on global energy markets and calls it a win. The strait was the objective. Walking away without it isn't a deal. It's a retreat dressed up as diplomacy.
