The objective of a fight is to damage your opponent until he quits - it's in the rules. If you fail to make him quit, the winner is determined by who came closest to that objective.

He wins rounds while in the pursuit of that goal, by damaging his opponent more than he is damaged each round. Objective is not to win rounds, it's to hurt your opponent. Read the rules.
