1 out of every 5 children in the US experience food insecurity - their families cannot afford enough food to ensure that they can have an active, healthy life. Childhood hunger exists in our cities, suburbs, and rural towns. It affects working families who can’t keep up with rising food prices. It affects our friends, family, and neighbors.” In this video, Bauer explores obstacles that exist in our food assistance systems and highlights the critical importance of individualized support for families. She explains how her research aims to remove barriers and reduce stigma that contributes to childhood hunger; actually listening to families when they give us practical solutions. “These community-driven approaches can transform children's health, but only if research funding continues. This isn't just research—it's about creating solutions based on evidence, not assumptions. I do this work because every child deserves the chance to thrive.” Learn more about how Kate Bauer's research and others like it at Michigan Public Health @umichsph are protecting the health of all: myumi.ch/mRZGE
