People have a right to whatever religious beliefs they want — even if those beliefs dehumanize other people — but they don’t have a right to hijack their employer to promote those hateful beliefs at a job-related event. MLB didn’t penalize them for their faith. It penalized them for violating the rules of their employment.

The funny thing about this is that Genesis 9:12-16 is about how the rainbow represents God’s covenant with ALL LIVING CREATURES OF EVERY KIND ON THE EARTH. If anything, they’re emphasizing their Christian God’s love for the LGBTQIA+ community without even realizing it.

@matthew_loftus In both cases, what people are missing, is the team and MLB are getting a monetary benefit, and only a performative cost. The real cost is being borne by players with convictions who are being coerced to state a position that they would have otherwise been gladly silent on.

@caroljsroth Sure, but homeowners also have to pay an annual tax on the unrealized value of their house…. I.e., a wealth tax on home value. I’m against the wealth tax but I pay a wealth tax every year amounting to 4% of my income; based on value of my unsold property.
