UK Palantir chief Louis Mosley is the grandson of the most infamous fascist in British history, Oswald Mosley, who had his wedding at Goebbels’ house so Hitler could attend. In America, Technocracy, Inc.—which included Elon Musk’s grandfather—supported him.

When your doctor prescribes a treatment, the evidence behind it was probably published in a journal like the British Medical Journal, or BMJ for short. The BMJ proved smoking caused cancer. It pioneered the randomised controlled trial. It is one of the four most cited medical journals on earth. This week, it published a piece that betrays that. A thread on the fall of a great journal. 🧵

BREAKING: The Chair of the House Oversight Committee admits that Republicans are considering a FULL PRESIDENTIAL PARDON for Jeffrey Epstein's right-hand woman Ghislaine Maxwell. And it gets so much worse.... “A lot of people do," said Chairman James Comer when asked if he supports giving Maxwell a pardon in exchange for her testimony. “My committee’s split on that. I don’t speak for my committee," he said, stating that he doesn't like the idea because it "looks bad." “Honestly, other than Epstein, the worst person in this whole investigation is Maxwell," he added. The problem with pardoning Maxwell — who was sentenced to twenty years in prison for her central role in Epstein's horrific sex trafficking empire — is not that it "looks bad." It's that it would be one of the single worst miscarriages of justice in American history. Donald Trump is accused of rape and gross sexual misconduct in the Epstein files, and that's just in the documents that have been released. If he personally signs a pardon for Maxwell to testify, we can be absolutely certain that it will be with the understanding that she will falsely exonerate him. He won't pardon her if there's a chance that she might reveal his crimes. He'll be pardoning her to keep her mouth shut. Democrats are voicing adamant opposition to the pardon suggestion— “That would be a huge step backwards, and, quite frankly, so disrespectful to the survivors,” said Congressman Robert Garcia, the committee's ranking Democrat. “She is a known abuser. She is a known liar.” “If the DOJ or Oversight Republicans are out there trying to negotiate some sort of pardon that is … not only a huge slap in the face to this investigation, to anyone, to the American public,” he said. “It’s a part of a massive cover up.” Thus far, Maxwell has refused to provide the Oversight Committee with useful testimony about Epstein and his criminal enterprises. Her attorney has been pushing for a pardon and has stated that he believes that one will be forthcoming. The swirling discourse around a possible pardon is complicated by the news that Maxwell reportedly sent a mysterious USB drive to the Justice Department on April 16th, just days after Melania Trump gave a bizarre and unexpected press conference during which she sought to distance herself from Epstein. What could be on that USB? One long-discussed concern is that Maxwell might expose Democrats connected to Epstein, while covering up the role of Republicans and Trump himself. To be clear: the American people deserve to know every name in those files, regardless of political party. Every Democrat should be exposed, but so should every Republican. It certainly seems possible that Maxwell might implicate Trump's political enemies in exchange for a pardon, while simultaneously obfuscating his wrongdoing. This cannot be allowed to happen. The victims deserve so much better and we deserve to see the full, unredacted files immediately. Please ❤️ and share if you oppose this pardon!

I’m just heading home from Queen’s Park and wanted to check in with all of you. From ramming through legislation in the late hours, to bypassing committee, Ford and his government are doing whatever they can to pass Bill 97, the highly undemocratic bill that limits Ford and his government from FOI requests; all of this JUST to shield his phone records. But the @ontariondp and I will continue to fight against this unjust legislation and ensure we always hold this government accountable!

Bypassing the #EU #ageVerification app - part 2. This time, it's v2026.04-2 - which won't run on rooted devices & has encrypted shared preferences. If we ignore the fact they've used a 6 year old deprecated library, they haven't actually solved the problem at all. An attacker can just as easily delete ciphertext as plain text. Ironically, they've tried to solve a problem they don't truly understand... much like the concept itself.
Paul Moore - Security Consultant @Paul_Reviews

The @EU_Commission has released an update to patch out the issues I raised last week, v2026.04-2 (#release-notes_1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">ageverification.dev/releases/#rele…) Honestly, I don't know if I should laugh or cry. Let's review each one: 1. On-device data: database and settings encrypted at rest, with keys protected by the device’s hardware-backed key store. Sounds great, until you look closer. They introduced androidx.security:security-crypto, deprecated in 2025. Also androidx.security.crypto.EncryptedSharedPreferences, deprecated in 2025. Finally, androidx.security.crypto.MasterKeys, which were deprecated in 2020. 3 deprecated dependencies introduced following criticism over weak security. These weren't left over and missed during an update... they've added them now to "harden security". Remember, this isn't an isolated app. It's intended to lay the foundation for many production applications; all using deprecated security libraries from the outset. Worse, they already correctly use KeystoreController in their codebase. The correct answer already existed and they still got it wrong. 2. Runtime: the app checks device integrity on startup and refuses to run on rooted or jailbroken devices. Production deployments should complement it with stronger device-attestation mechanisms appropriate to their infrastructure and compliance requirements. They check for su, check package manager for root apps, run "which su" and checks if it's a custom ROM. Paths: /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su /sbin/su /system/su /data/local/su /data/local/bin/su /data/local/xbin/su /system/app/Superuser.apk /system/app/SuperSU.apk Great... in 2015. These are all trivially bypassed in 2026. 3. Passport onboarding: more stable scanning; the passport photo is stored privately and deleted as soon as it’s no longer needed. They're still not encrypted, so I'm not sure what "privately" means - but they are deleted correctly now. 4. PIN: stricter rules block easy-to-guess PINs; PINs are salted and hashed, never stored in plain form. They salt correctly (a true CSPRNG), then use PBKDF2-SHA256 - which is outdated and only recommended where FIPS compliance is required, which doesn't apply here. To make matters worse, they use just 210,000 iterations. For those of a NISTy disposition, you're likely already shaking your head. 210,000 seems oddly specific. It is. It's the @owasp minimum for PBKDF2-SHA512, not SHA256. Right number, wrong algorithm. In reality, OWASP recommended 600,000 iterations as a minimum in 2023. Worse still, 600,000 is the baseline minimum for passwords, not PINs with 1 million permutations. You could use 1B iterations, you're not measurably increasing security when there are so few attempts required to break it. At the very least, use a modern hash with reasonable brute-force resistance against a 2026 threat model. All this... cited as a "first hardening step". Again, utter security theatre. None of this negates my fundamental point. This isn't fixable through code - it's fundamentally ill-conceived and poorly implemented.

Give A Shit About Nature
Give A Shit About Nature@giveashitnature·
In 1973, a Brazilian man used a government loan intended for deforestation and hit 'em with an uno reverse card. Antonio Vicente bought 31 hectares of stripped cattle pasture outside São Paulo with credits the military government was handing out to farmers clearing rainforest for agriculture. He took the money and planted trees instead. He planted each one by hand for the next forty years. The land had been razed. The springs were dry and the soil was hard and compacted. Neighbors thought he was insane. His wife even left him for a period. But he kept planting. By the time he was in his eighties, the 31 hectares were Atlantic Forest again. Native trees, understory plants, mammals and birds that hadn't been seen in the region for decades. The springs came back and water flows from his land into the regional watershed year-round. Brazil loses thousands of hectares of rainforest every year. Antonio Vicente added back 31 of them, alone, with a shovel and a half-century of patience. He said he didn't do it to save the world. He did it because a forest was what the land had wanted to be.

This is not the end of FOI, but it is a definitive narrowing that should worry anyone in #Ontario who values transparency and accountability. Hidden in Bill 97 are changes to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act that would remove the Premier’s office and cabinet ministers’ offices from FOI access entirely. Not delayed. Not redacted. Excluded. This distinction matters. Because FOI isn’t about catching crime in real time. It’s about reconstructing decisions after the fact, who said what, who knew what, and when. It’s how journalists, investigators, and the public piece together the truth behind policy, contracts, and controversy. And with Ford, scandal seems to follow everywhere. Remove political offices from FOI, and you don’t just limit access, you eliminate the ability to even ask the question. You can't request, therefore you can't appeal. Just a blind spot at the highest level of decision-making. We’ve already seen how FOI has exposed major issues in this province, from land use decisions to spending, internal communications, and policy shifts. Those didn’t come from press releases. They came from records the government was legally obligated to provide. And that’s the point. If decisions are made in spaces no longer subject to FOI, accountability doesn’t disappear, but it becomes harder, slower, and far more dependent on leaks, mistakes, or chance. For those asking if police are next, police services already operate under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and they’ve long relied on exemptions, delays, and redactions to manage disclosure. They don’t need new laws to resist FOI. They use the ones they have. Indeed my recent four month wait for @NiagRegPolice FOI response which produced 12 completely vetted pages for a two year joint department investigation is going o be a battle, but a battle I can still fight. But this is different. This is about drawing a line around political power and saying, "what happens inside here is no longer subject to scrutiny in the same way." And once that line is drawn, it doesn’t tend to move back easily. Transparency doesn’t usually disappear overnight. It erodes, incrementally, quietly, often justified as efficiency or privacy. Bit by bit, piece by piece, they slowly chip away at your rights, and hide their wrongdoing, until one day, the records that used to answer questions you may have, simply don’t exist anymore. Canada looks transparent on paper, but ranks around 58th globally for FOI and dead last for #whistleblower protection, a gap most people don’t realize. In other words, the media can no longer ask questions in the right places, and whistleblowers will lose their jobs or may even go to jail for disclosing wrongdoing. O'Canada ... eh? #onpoli #cdnpoli
