You can say anything you want about Sunil Gavaskar but there is no better example of someone respecting the past in cricket, the players who paved the way and turning up for them. He does this consistently and with so much genuine feeling. This is another thing we may have lost with the march of time and the progress Indian cricket has made on other fronts.

Many trolled me last night because I commented on @LauraLoomer post about coming to India for #Indiatodayconclave Let's make the point: I did see a few of her pre & post-election 2024 posts – no excuse for them at all; they were terrible. x.com/LauraLoomer/st… However, what very few know is that in the summer of 2025, Laura took up cudgels for HINDUS against Khalistanis who had attacked temples in North America & had spread terror. She also spoke about the Air India Kanishka bombing & about Islamists, who were the root cause of evil. She has supported Hindu groups in Washington DC & even spoken against the Khalistanis & Pakistanis who were protesting when Shashi Tharoor & other MPs visited the National Press Club in DC to speak on Operation Sindoor. I was there at that time. Perhaps she had changed her mind between 2024 and mid-2025; the fact that she's coming to India says a lot about how the Hindu groups/Indians she has interacted with in the US have changed her thoughts. Do remember even Donald Trump, Macron, Peter Navarro & Bessent were once rabidly critical of India but are friends today. @IndiaToday

I remember a decade plus ago I'd gone to Gokarna and I was sitting in this cafe run by an Israeli. I didn't realise they were racist and didn't allow Indians in, because they allowed me. A group of Indian boys walked in and the owners denied them entry. The men who owned the cafe then proceeded to hit on me, and ask me questions when I was quietly reading my book, and asked me if I was from Portugal or Spain and I just kept ignoring them. I wasn't so well-informed back then but now when I look back on the incident it all makes sense. I wish I could go back in time and punch them in the face.

Before the BJP came along with Hindu-Muslim nonsense, Shia-Sunni conflicts were commonplace in India. Hopefully, these events in Iran and the Gulf countries don't restart sectarian conflict in India. We don't need one more reason for Indians to fight Indians
