What caused the Odin.fun Dump? Odin tokens have been on a decline over the past few days, which had most users wondering why. I believe it came down to these 2 reasons: 1) The Platform got Exploited 2) Improvements haven't met users' expectations 1) Exploit On 6th March 12:46PM, a user 'deposited' 74.6₿ ($6.4 million) into Odin. The transaction didn't appear on chain because it never actually happened! It was fake credited in the user's balance. He proceeded to buy 1₿ worth of OdinDog, the platform's main token. He also created 2 tokens who reached a collective >$1 million, using the attention from the alleged monster deposit. The now-'deleted account' rugged both of the tokens and dumped all his OdinDog tokens, losing holders a lot of money in the process. I brought this issue to Bob's attention less than 2h after the fake deposit happened and 12h before he rugged the tokens, all this could have been prevented. He shared an update on the situation 15h after it happened, but shared little to no information regarding what funds were lost, recovered and where that liquidity went. I haven't managed to find any withdrawal transactions from Odin and the user would've had 1-2₿ in Odin which might not have been withdrawn yet. I believe those should go to the people affected. 2) Platform Improvement When Odin came out, it seemed like an amazing breakthrough. Suddenly, trading tokens on BTC was fun again and the speed, liquidity and volume felt better than ever, a huge step in the right direction. While Odin has had some improvements since, it feels like they either neglected users' desires or simply didn't manage to meet the expectations. Here are some of Odin's issues: • Even though everyone asked for it, they couldn't/didn't want to implement an easy twitter verification for new tokens, leading to users getting farmed and losing 100ks on fake tokens • I've had an unsuccessful withdrawal ticket open for >1 month now, they promised several times they will fix it, only to come back and ask me if the issue is fixed and asking me to check my wallet • They have faced withdrawal/deposits issues from the second the platform went live and while I admit it's difficult to deal with normies/people who don't check the chain, a simple tx link in activity would have solved 50%+ of the tickets, it took an exploit for them to explore the option • There was a bug where if you put two spaces in your username it showed as blank. It took them 3 days to fix it and there are still users who show up as blank • The charts initially had timeframes as well, they patched those and failed to add them back after everyone asked for them. Instead, now the charts only reflect recent volume and cut-off after a certain volume/time threshold and we can't check price movement for last week for example • They mentioned working on deposits for OG Runes since the first week and said "soon" countless times, no updates on that part • While they did manage to figure out etching and withdrawals for OdinDog, they failed to add any sort of Odin tokens supply distribution, which would have opened the gates for several opportunities and projects to launch on Odin and everyone asked for it Not to cause any misunderstandings, I am a proud user of Odin and have loved the platform from the moment it came out. I bought OdinDog below 50k MC and held it all the way. I am very excited to have a new cool place to trade and wish to see the Odin ecosystem go as crazy as possible. But in order for Odin to succeed even more than it already has, improvements are needed. I would really love to see a community being formed where traders can advocate for the changes they want to see implemented and someone actually listen to us. I would love to see some more transparency regarding the process and inner workings of Odin too.
