Myopic? The US spent over $8 trillion on post-9/11 wars with nothing to show for it except destabilized regions, stronger extremist groups, and 900,000+ dead. Iraq was supposed to take weeks. It took 20 years and we left behind a country closer to Iran than to us. Afghanistan fell back to the Taliban in 11 days after two decades and $2.3 trillion. The "broader lens" you're suggesting has been tried. It failed every single time. Maybe the actual myopia is watching the same movie on repeat and expecting a different ending.

Trump wants to increase military spending to over $1 trillion to fund his war in Iran—the highest level in modern history. How will he pay for it? By gutting health care, housing, climate, and education programs, and making life harder for families. None of this puts America first. nytimes.com/2026/04/03/us/…

Standard operating procedure doesn't make it legal. The US itself prosecuted Serbian officials for targeting civilian infrastructure in the 90s under the same logic. Geneva Convention Article 54 exists precisely because militaries kept using "dual use" as cover to collectively punish populations. Power plants run hospitals, water treatment, and homes for 90 million people. When 80% of Iraq's electrical grid was destroyed in '91, it wasn't soldiers who suffered, it was half a million children who died from waterborne disease. There's a reason the law draws a line between military targets and civilian survival infrastructure.

@Velora91 @AJEnglish Taking out bridges to prevent your opponent from moving around military assets is standard operating procedure in a conflict. Depriving your opponent of the necessary fuel and power needed to conduct military operations is also standard operating procedure in a conflict.

"Numerous intercepts" of Iranians begging to be bombed. Sure. This is the same playbook as Iraq 2003 when we were told Iraqis would greet the US military with flowers. They didn't. Every independent poll ever taken shows that populations under foreign bombardment rally around their government, not against it. This happened in London during the Blitz. It happened in Vietnam. It happened in Iraq. It's happening right now in Iran. This claim doesn't pass the most basic common sense test and the fact that it's being repeated without challenge is embarrassing.

“Please keep bombing, do it.” Donald Trump claimed the US has “numerous intercepts” of Iranians pleading for a continuation of bombing near their homes and repeated his calls for a government uprising if a ceasefire is declared.

So the president of the United States is bragging about his personal friendship with a dictator who runs concentration camps during a press conference about bombing Iran. Let that sink in. North Korea has actual nuclear weapons, openly tested ICBMs, and runs forced labor camps. Iran signed the NPT and was under IAEA inspections. But North Korea gets compliments and Iran gets threatened with destruction. The criteria for who gets bombed and who gets a friendship bracelet has nothing to do with nuclear programs or human rights. It never did.

So Israel, a country that has never signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and has an estimated 90 undeclared nuclear warheads, is bombing Iran's nuclear facilities while Iran was an NPT signatory. The country WITH secret nukes is destroying the program of the country that agreed to inspections. And nobody in Western media sees the irony. Iran's nuclear program was under IAEA monitoring. Now there's nothing left to monitor. Congratulations, you just removed the one framework that gave the international community any visibility into their program.

🚨🇮🇷🇮🇱 BREAKING: Israel just hit the Ardakan Nuclear Facility in Yazd, Iran's only uranium extraction and yellowcake processing plant. No yellowcake, no enrichment. No enrichment, no nuclear program. "All of this is happening for their future." Iran has 32 million children under 18. UNICEF estimated that bombing power infrastructure alone causes an immediate spike in child mortality because hospital ventilators stop, water purification halts, and vaccine cold chains break. We saw this happen in Iraq after 1991. Within the first year after infrastructure bombing, child mortality doubled. This isn't speculation. It's documented history. And Melania just called it "for their future."

Iran has 610,000 active military and 350,000 reserves. Mountainous terrain covering 80% of the country. 1.6 million square km of territory. For context, Iraq was 438,000 sq km of mostly flat desert and it took the US 8 years, 4,500 dead Americans, and $2 trillion to achieve basically nothing. Iran is 4x bigger, 3x the population, and has been preparing defensive positions for 20 years. "Boots on the ground" is not a plan. It's a confession that air power already failed.

A foreign president openly calling for regime change and civilian uprising in another sovereign nation while actively bombing it. Imagine if any country said this about the US. The entire Iranian population rallied behind their government after the first strikes, same as every single country in history when attacked from outside. Bombing people does not make them hate their leaders. It makes them hate the ones doing the bombing. This is literally the first lesson of asymmetric warfare and somehow Washington never learns it.

This headline says "Iran threatened its neighbors." No. Read it again. Iran said IF its energy infrastructure is struck, the whole region goes dark. That is not a threat. That is a warning based on physics. Iran shares power grids and gas pipelines with Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. You bomb their power stations, the blackout doesn't stop at the Iranian border. This is just reality that nobody wants to admit because admitting it makes the US plan sound insane.

Funny how when Russia shares intelligence with Iran, it's a scandal. But when the US and Israel have been sharing targeting data for weeks to bomb Iranian civilians, that's just "operational coordination." The double standard is so blatant it's almost insulting. Iran has every right to defend itself and to use any intelligence available to strike back at the country actively destroying its infrastructure. That's not escalation. That's self defense under international law.

🚨🇺🇦🇮🇷🇷🇺 RUSSIA REPORTEDLY HANDED IRAN A HIT LIST OF 55 ISRAELI ENERGY TARGETS Ukrainian intelligence says Russia gave Iran a three-tier target package for Israel's power grid. Level 1: critical production like Orot Rabin power station that would cripple the whole system. Level 2: urban/industrial hubs in central Israel. Level 3: regional substations. This is Russia actively helping Iran plan strikes on Israeli civilian infrastructure during an active war. They're literally providing the targeting data. Iran's already threatened to hit energy and desalination plants across the Gulf. Now they've got Russian intel on exactly which Israeli facilities to strike for maximum damage. Moscow's picking a side and it's not the one Trump thought. @officialrnintel

The Mad King of Westeros at least stayed in his own kingdom before losing his mind. This man is out here threatening to bomb Iran into the stone age at 8pm, then casually announcing he will run for president of Venezuela before lunch. Aerys Targaryen said "burn them all." Trump said "burn them all, then learn Spanish, then run another country." The GoT writers could never.
Fox News@FoxNews

President Trump jokes about running for president in Venezuela after his term ends in the United States: "I'm polling higher than anybody has ever polled in Venezuela." "After I'm finished with this, I can go to Venezuela. I will quickly learn Spanish. It won't take too long... I'm going to run for president."

5/ Iran is not Iraq in 2003. They watched what happened there and spent 20 years preparing for this exact moment. Their Foreign Minister said "let the US kill me, I don't fear death." That is not a man whose government is about to collapse under pressure. Iran sent back a 10-point counter-proposal. Not silence. Not panic. A negotiating document. That tells you everything about who has the longer game here.

Iran rejected Trump's ceasefire deal. Good. A country getting bombed daily has zero reason to accept a 45-day pause that changes nothing permanently. They want a real end to the war. Not a napkin deal with an 8pm expiry. Here is what nobody is actually saying out loud. A thread.
