This week we will present to the Council a Professional Services Agreement with Planned Parenthood to Expand our Successful and Innovative Pilot Partnerships to increase Women’s Health
In 2022, we kicked off the pilot program in which the WIC of Jersey City and Planned Parenthood(PPMNJ) have formulated the first of its kind Partnership between the two agencies. As Planned Parenthood is a natural extension of the mission of the Jersey City WIC program, as it embodies the much needed reproductive support of the participants. Never have these services been more crucial to the needs of the population that they service.
During the first ten months of the pilot program, 300 WIC participants were able to receive life changing services through this Partnership.
This means that this Partnership has serviced more than 20% of Jersey City WIC’s eligible (adult female) cliental.
As encouraging as these numbers are, they don’t even begin to quantify the true scope of this Partnership. The more than 20% (21.4%) of the individuals that received these services were also referred to other community partners including Medicaid, which aided in affordable service which they might have otherwise been unable to receive.
Some of the additional services they received were: general checkups, emergency visits, birth control and pap smears. Again, these are all services that they may not have had access to without the Partnership.
This also is incredibly impactful in terms of preventative health. One of the additional services that clients received was transportation. With all of the participants being on or below the poverty line, this essential service cannot be overlooked with the current cost of owning and maintaining a vehicle. This could potentially be the difference between these participants being able to receive medical care.
This type of Partnership serves as a prime example of two organizations working together to expand their scope of services and expanding the reach of resources to their cliental.
At the next council meeting we will be doubling the investment here. We are about action in JC.
