#ANNOUNCEMENT time! The Volcanology and Geothermal Research Group and Laboratories @LivUni are no more. Packed up and shipped out, after almost 10 years of hard work since inception, we can reflect on the many successes as this chapter finally draws to a close… 1/n

Over £2.5M funding helped build one of the largest #experimental #labs of its kind in the UK, this never could have been achieved without the support of @ERC_research @leverhulmetrust and, you really made us work for it, but @NERCscience too! Thanks!

We ran a #summerscience exhibit at the @Royalsociety, presented our work at over 50 national and international #conferences, won #awards and hosted the @GeoLiv2017 conference for over 450 #Geoscientists in #Liverpool, spurring exciting new connections and collaborations.

We’ve studied #volcanoes from Japan to America to Peru, discovered new physico-chemical processes, helped improve volcanic hazard preparedness in Guatemala, and explored the boundaries of geothermal energy in Iceland. Thanks to all who came along for the #research ride!

We’re so #grateful for, and #proud of, the 30+ members, including staff, post-docs, PhDs, master students, interns and guest researchers have helped shape the group, 10 PhDs have been successfully completed, contributing to an astounding 115 papers published in as many months!

Congratulations to our latest rock doctor - Josh Weaver! We’re so proud of you! You took the immense challenge of covid and turned it into an opportunity take your project in a whole new direction, all with a smile on your face! Brilliant work! 😁🍾🎉📜🎈@LivUniEarthSci

The best (IMHO) grant proposal I've written got rejected today. Actually it got rejected yesterday and I just found the email in the junk folder (seems appropriate...). Oh well. 20% success rate means you have to submit 5 grants to get 1 funded, so 4 more attempts to go...
