🌟 At Tuesday night's Committee of the Whole meeting, @AuroraPoliceIL Officer Gerardo Chaidez received The Life Saving Award Certificate of Recognition from @ILPoliceChiefs! 🎖️ The prestigious honor, presented by Naperville Chief of Police and Executive Board Member of the ILACP, Jason Arres, was given to Chaidez after saving the lives of two individuals in two separate incidents throughout 2024. 🚨 On January 19, 2024, Officer Chaidez was dispatched to a call of a dog viciously attacking a young girl. When he arrived, he very quickly assessed the scene, and noticed that the girl’s arm was nearly severed from her body. Knowing that he had the stop the attack from the dog, Officer Chaidez shot the dog, and immediately began to render aid, while directing other officers to get resources. A tourniquet was placed on the girl’s arm, saving its function. Officer Chaidez did this while keeping calm and showing great compassion. 🚨 On August 5, 2024, Officer Chaidez was on vacation in Texas. While traveling on Highway 20 outside of Colorado City, Texas., he witnessed a motorcycle crash in which the rider of the motorcycle struck a guard rail. As a result, the rider's leg was completely severed from his body. Officer Chaidez quickly pulled over, dragged the victim out of the lane of traffic, which was a busy highway, removed his shirt to apply direct pressure and then improvised a tourniquet when he was given a belt. Again, he was the calm in the chaos. He also showed a great deal of compassion. ❤️ The City of Aurora congratulates Officer Chaidez on his heroism, bravery, and life-saving efforts. Your actions serve as a testament to your incredible service to the City!
