An existential threat? So why isn’t the House of Commons sitting through the summer? I would’ve assumed that the greatest threat that our country has ever faced might require our elected officials to, you know, work until we’re through it. Unless of course that was all hyperbole and exaggeration in an effort to win an election. Don’t ask me to do better when the people we’ve elected don’t seem inclined to do so.
Under the Radar🇨🇦@retail_recruit

That happens when parties leading new governments change. Like no CPC took over from Libs or vice versa before? This time, we have an existential threat in our border. Do better.

Albertans have good reason to be angry: their real wages are down 10%, their minimum wage is frozen, their inflation is worst in Canada, their health care's at risk. None of that was caused by the rest of Canada. My take in today's @TorontoStar: thestar.com/business/opini…. #cdnecon

Hold on, Brian. You’re talking out of both sides of your mouth. Either the evil Liberal/NDP alliance has destroyed our oil and gas sector or the sector is an enormous success, setting records for production and profits. It can’t be both. Which is it?
Brian Jean@BrianJeanAB

Alberta continues to break oil production records, hitting 4.19 million barrels per day in March, up 3.6 per cent over March 2024! Our oilsands continue to be at the forefront of this growth, accounting for 84 per cent in total oil production, as we work to meet growing global demand for our responsibly produced energy! #abpoli #ableg #alberta #energy #oil #bitumen #canada Read more: buff.ly/weujYKw

This is appalling. Elections Canada is the envy of much of the world in terms of the fairness and efficiency with which Canadian elections are prosecuted. For the CPC to be leaning into conspiratorial nonsense is profoundly disappointing. cbc.ca/news/politics/…

Alberta continues to help lead the nation in job creation and opportunity! In April, we added 15,000 new jobs, almost all of them full-time, and saw strong growth in the private sector… And with the highest average weekly wages in the country, Albertans are keeping more in their pockets while driving our economy forward.

BREAKING: A group representing General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis blast Trump's trade deal with the United Kingdom, saying that it would harm the U.S. auto sector. "Under this deal, it will now be cheaper to import a UK vehicle with very little U.S. content than a USMCA compliant vehicle from Mexico or Canada that is half American parts," said the American Automotive Policy Council, which represents the Detroit Three automakers. "This hurts American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers."

Maybe you should Google “olive branch” you are 1/12 of the country and it’s about what’s best for the majority not just the 1/12

I congratulate Prime Minister @MarkJCarney on his minority government election victory last night.   I also want to sincerely thank @PierrePoilievre for his powerful and principled advocacy against the last decade’s punitive taxation and anti-resource policies that have made our country weaker, more divided and overly-dependent on the United States.   Mr. Poilievre’s vision for a safer, more affordable, united and prosperous Canada drove the policy debate in this country for the last several years and has inspired millions to see the unique potential of our nation. While Liberals and New Democrats demeaned and demonized Albertans, our values and our industries for political gain, Mr. Poilievre made empowering Albertans and our energy sector a cornerstone of his campaign. His respect and admiration for Albertans could not have been clearer. He is and continues to be a true friend of Alberta.   As Premier, I invite the Prime Minister to immediately commence working with our government to reset the relationship between Ottawa and Alberta with meaningful action rather than hollow rhetoric. A large majority of Albertans are deeply frustrated that the same government that overtly attacked our provincial economy almost unabated for the past 10 years has been returned to government.   As Premier, I will not permit the status quo to continue. Albertans are proud Canadians that want this nation to be strong, prosperous, and united, but we will no longer tolerate having our industries threatened and our resources landlocked by Ottawa.   In the weeks and months ahead, Albertans will have an opportunity to discuss our province’s future, assess various options for strengthening and protecting our province against future hostile acts from Ottawa, and to ultimately choose a path forward.   As Premier, I will facilitate and lead this discussion and process with the sincere hope of securing a prosperous future for our province within a united Canada that respects our province’s constitutional rights, facilitates rather than blocks the development and export of our abundant resources, and treats us as a valued and respected partner within confederation.   Our government will be holding a special caucus meeting this Friday to discuss this matter further. I will have more to say after that meeting is concluded.

It’s hard to believe Mr. Blanchet would describe Canada as “an artificial country with very little meaning.” Say what you want about our challenges, but don’t insult the country we all call home.

Some thoughts from earlier posts, shaped by what I’ve observed—and a few comments I got. I asked people in Europe: "What USA-made products have you bought from a grocery store?" The answer? Almost nothing. A few mentioned snacks or drinks, but even then—most were made in Europe, under different brand names. Then I flipped it: "What European products do you buy at your local store?" Boom—cheese, chocolate, wine, pasta, biscuits. Pricey? Sometimes. Available? Absolutely. So what’s going on? European products flood American shelves. But American products barely make it onto European ones. It’s not just about shipping costs. It’s about standards—and whose side the law is on. In Europe, food safety follows the Precautionary Principle: "Prove it’s safe before it hits the shelf." In the US, it’s the Risk-Based Approach: "Sell it unless it proves harmful—eventually." Big difference. Life-altering difference. The result? A lot of American-made food doesn’t qualify for the European market. Too many banned ingredients. Too many additives. Too many shortcuts. So even US-based giants—Pepsi, Kraft, Nestlé—switch gears in Europe, cutting out the junk to meet the standards. They can make safer food. They do make safer food. Just not for Americans. Why? Because in the US, the rules let them cut corners, keep selling, and rake in profits. It’s cheaper to lobby against change than to raise the bar. Same company. Same product. Two versions. And in America? You get the worse one. That’s not just a market failure. That’s a conscious, profit-driven choice. And unless people start demanding better, it’s not going to change. Honestly? I feel bad for the average American consumer—sold the illusion of choice, while store shelves overflow with ultra-processed, chemical-laced junk dressed in slick packaging. It’s not just about price. It’s about health. And they’re getting the short end of the stick, one bite at a time.
