I’ve covered Eric Swawell since he was a member of the Dublin City Council. Shortly after being elected to Congress in 2013, his behavior towards women was known by all levels of our local government and the Alameda County Democratic Party.

I have spent my entire career reporting on sexual misconduct by politicians. The barrier to publication anywhere with good lawyers is very, very high. Getting women to speak and share personal records and acquire corroboration from friends and colleagues is extremely difficult.

In hindsight, I really enjoyed how Serena Williams did her retirement. It wasn’t a full season of long and emotional goodbyes but rather just a 4 week or so segment to give it her all and go out how swinging how she wanted. Much respect to Monfils and Wawrinka but idk how they’re coping with almost every week, every tournament is gearing up to send them off with flowers or something. I would be emotionally drained on some level while also trying to compete and get wins.
