In case you are wondering there are precisely TWO types of professors in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. I am not one that would do this to a student, FWIW.

@StaceyJSpiehler Tulane is always hiring in orientation and programs in Newcomb Tulane College. The pay stinks but once you're in the Tulane system, moving up is very doable.

Had class today but hubby did not. Students showed up and talked. Meanwhile, I was greeted at home with a dressed shrimp poboy and a beer. King cake in the oven to go to the route. Happy Mardi Gras to us all! 💜💚💛

@_Kristina_Kay I noticed that so many restaurants and cafes in Havana had door men/bouncers 24/7, and when I asked why (I also felt so safe), I was told that the practice was so widespread at other touristy islands they felt the need to "keep up" even though it wasn't really necessary.

Puerto Ricans are actively resisting colonial governance, military occupation & neoliberal precarity. There are ongoing struggles around LUMA, Vieques, disaster recovery nearly a decade after Maria, and questions of sovereignty & independence that shape daily life. Yet it feels like their entire political landscape is being flattened (as often the left does to the Caribbean), so outsiders can get Bad Bunny dunks in. This isn’t about defending a celeb or Super Bowl spectacle. It’s about whether your politics & organizing materially align w/the ppl actually fighting colonial power or whether Puerto Rico is just another stage for Twitter commentary.
