I was going to post this yesterday on World Aid’s Day But I woke up feeling so overwhelmed with sadness that words felt meaningless. It’s hard to explain the sense of loss and confusion And despair for so many people. Because my show is a retrospective of my Journey of the last 4 decades -Told through music : How could I not recognize This incredibly important moment , not only in my life but in so many others. “ AIDS came through like a brushfire. Like a freight train. It was unexpected and merciless. It destroyed all the beautiful people. An entire generation of artists was wiped out. Turned to ash. Today remembering the birthday of another young “Daughter of Iran” taken on Nov 16th in Tabriz during the uprisings last year, whose bravery and humanity will not be forgotten. Her death certainly never forgiven. Aylar Haghi, a fourth-year medical student, was killed after treating wounded protesters and rang friends on her mobile that security forces were chasing her before she was shot and killed. The Iranian regime has not taken responsibility for the killing of any protesters and attributed their deaths to suicide, illness, and accidents. In some cases they’ve forced the families of the dead to repeat “official” accounts of the death of their loved ones in front of television cameras. The people of Iran, inside and outside the country, have made it clear they are now done, and actually have been for most of the last 44 years of this barbaric medievalism. RIP #Aylar_Haghi who would’ve been 24 today.
