Earlier today I spoke with the doctor on the ship and he confirmed something. CDC messaging continues to say "prolonged, close contact" but that contradicts: 1) what's in the literature, and 2) what's happening on this ship. --> the doc told me a few who got infected/died DID have direct contact w/ very sick patient while treating them, but 3 who tested positive did NOT have direct physical or close contact - only shared time in a few spaces on the ship where people congregate (dining, lecture area)

FACT: #COVID19 is NOT airborne. The #coronavirus is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks. To protect yourself: -keep 1m distance from others -disinfect surfaces frequently -wash/rub your 👐 -avoid touching your 👀👃👄

It is encouraging to see WHO update its Andes hantavirus guidance on May 8 to recommend respirators rather than medical masks for symptomatic individuals associated with the outbreak. Recognition of airborne transmission risk and appropriate respiratory protection are important components of effective outbreak response. who.int/emergencies/di…

Daily Mail dubs the 40% fatality airborne hantavirus the “Rat Virus Panic Hits Texas” like it’s a silly rodent problem. The replies spiral into pure delusions: Ship HVAC systems must be aerosolizing decade old rat droppings. Someone says we already been through this already except with monkeys. Another is offended the virus was described as it “HIT TEXAS” because that sounds too much like a hurricane which is much worse scenario in their opinion. Someone believes the passengers are fine because apparently everyone that was alive in 1993 when they first discovered this are still kicking and alive. Louisiana nutria rat eaters are completely unbothered. Toilet paper preppers gearing up, and zinc supplement soldiers ready to breathe through shredded lungs. The stupidity must be airborne too. 💀

If it is airborne, then this "close, prolonged contact" line everyone is pushing might be dogma.
