The issue with the cited study is that their sample of accounts were habitual headline+link posters with no additional content. The post must contain something that people can react to (e.g., comments or likes) for the algorithm to get signal. If your followers regularly express no reaction to your content, then naturally posts that do get reactions will rank above it in Timeline. We want to see Techmeme succeed on X. As an experiment, you should try attaching screenshots of the reactions to news events, like the ones you cite on your homepage.

FYI: We're now omitting links in @Techmeme tweets. Why? 1. Links limit reach (see embedded study) 2. The cost for posting links using X's API increased today by 1900%. Links may return later, but we're still exploring how we might accomplish that.

Self Healing Memory Update 🫡 Just hardened the memory engine. What’s new: Added a SQLite index on top of memory logs for fast search as history grows Your history still lives in a memory.md file. The database is just a fast search layer built on top of it On startup it verifies the SHA-256 hash. If anything drifts or gets edited, it rebuilds the index from the file Result is a local first memory system with a disposable index and zero hidden state
