When Yellow Springs Elementary students arrive for the first day of school in the 2026-27 school year, they will attend classes in a new school building.
Yellow Springs student ambassadors were joined by state, local and FCPS leaders for the celebratory groundbreaking ceremony of the new Yellow Springs Elementary on July 29.
This new school, with a capacity of 745 students, will replace the existing Yellow Springs Elementary, which opened in 1957. The new school will add nearly 300 seats from the current Yellow Springs building, helping to address population growth in the community. FCPS is the fastest-growing school district in Maryland by student population.
The replacement Yellow Springs Elementary is part of the FCPS Educational Facilities Master Plan, a 10-year plan that sets goals and addresses future school facility needs in response to enrollment growth. These projects are supported by county and state funding.
Building projects that will support students when the 2025-2026 school year opens on August 20 include:
⭐️A replacement Valley Elementary
⭐️A replacement Green Valley Elementary
⭐️Renovations at Spring Ridge Elementary
⭐️Renovations at Ballenger Creek Elementary
