Dear Champions, the 2026 budget has been passed and now the real work begins. N32.2tn has been allocated for capital projects across Nigeria, but without citizen oversight, many projects may remain on paper, be poorly executed, or abandoned. We must begin to ask questions now.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is not just about building a road. It is raising deep accountability and governance concerns that cannot be ignored. Beyond the headlines, several critical issues stand out: - Unclear total project cost and limited public disclosure on procurement process. - Demolitions and displacement of businesses and livelihoods with concerns around compensation. - Environmental risks to coastal communities, wetlands, and long term climate impact. - Phased commissioning that raises questions about political optics versus actual project completion. - Uncertainty around project design, scope, and long term maintenance plan. At Tracka, we have joined many well-meaning Nigerians in demanding answers. We submitted a Freedom of Information request to @FMWNIG through the office of the minister @DaveUmahi to seek clarity on these issues since March 2, yet no response has been received to date. This lack of transparency weakens public trust and raises further concerns about how large-scale infrastructure projects are being managed. Public projects of this magnitude must be open, accountable, and people-centred. Citizens deserve to know the true cost, the process, and the long-term impact. We will continue to #followtheprojects and demand accountability because #publicfundsmustworkforthegoodofthepeople. #askquestions

The 300 Bed-Space Specialist Hospital Millennium City, Chikun, Kaduna, now renamed Bola Tinubu Specialist Hospital, stands as a troubling example of projects completed but not serving the people. Commissioned in June 2025 with high expectations, this laudable facility remains under lock and key over 10 months later, yet to deliver the critical healthcare services it was built for. A 300-bed specialist hospital should be saving lives, reducing pressure on existing facilities, and improving access to quality healthcare. Instead, it sits idle while communities continue to struggle for care, and those who can afford it are forced to travel elsewhere to access the services meant to be available locally. Even more concerning, reports from the community indicate that the ambulances supplied during commissioning are no longer in the facility, raising serious questions about asset management, oversight, and accountability. - Why commission a fully completed hospital that is not operational? - Who is responsible for ensuring it becomes functional? - Where are the critical resources meant to serve the people? Public infrastructure is not for ceremonies. It is for service to tax payers. This situation reflects a deeper issue of premature commissioning, weak post-completion planning, and poor accountability mechanisms. Citizens deserve more than ribbon-cutting events, they deserve functional, accessible, and life-saving services. We call on Governor @ubasanius, @GovKaduna, @Kadunastategov1, Kaduna State Ministry of Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmed and all other relevant authorities to: - Immediately clarify the status of the hospital. - Ensure it is fully operational without further delay. - Account for all assets, including the missing ambulances. - Put in place a sustainable plan for staffing, and management. This should not continue, #publicfundsmustworkforthegoodofthepeople #Askquestions

We expect perfection from civic organizations. Even when they fall short, the instinct is to discard them entirely. But there are too few organizations willing to challenge public authorities, and the least we can do is support them, offer corrections, and avoid tarnishing them. If the outcome of this is a response from NAFDAC, then it is already worthwhile. Nigerian citizens must learn how to put public institutions on the defensive and make them work. Public debate is enriched, and citizen enlightenment improves. We must also understand that media and civic ecosystems exist along a spectrum. Some actors use aggressive tactics, others apply mixed methods, and some work in tandem with the government. All approaches that strengthen institutional accountability are valid, and these organizations should also be held accountable. What is difficult to understand is why people within government who do not use their influence to advance these causes would join public criticism of civic organizations. Citizens should be able to see through such criticism, whether it is an attempt to undermine operational independence or genuinely push for higher standards. As for the trope of performing for grants, consider working within government or institutional systems if funding is the goal. This is simple advice, so no one assumes donors make decisions based on social media reactions. In reality, aligning with the government or taking a gradual partnership approach is often more rewarding than openly challenging the system. I have examples of how outrage delivered for civil society on certain issues morphs into institutional funding support. No one cares about who seeded the ideas in the first place. Do not think that attacking the government will get you funding. The development ecosystem is deeper than that. Selah.

Scary! but this only reflect the reality we daily face in this country. I make bold to say Nigeria's own form of natural disaster is systemic failure. Unfortunately, this persistent failure has been largely responsible for the countless mishaps we record across Nigeria everyday.

A CLINIC IN NAME, A DEATH TRAP IN REALITY!! This is Nyaguru PHC where childbirth is conducted with candles 🕯️ The PHC facility serving Nyaguru Ija Gbagyi community in Tafa LGA of Niger State is in a state of severe neglect, unable to provide even the most basic healthcare services. Despite being the only health facility for over 1,500 residents, the clinic lacks the infrastructure, equipment, and staffing required to provide medical care, with just one nurse struggling to manage all medical needs for nearly a decade. The building itself is unsafe. Ceilings have collapsed, rainwater leaks into treatment rooms, and sanitation is poor. Childbirth is often conducted in darkness using candles or lanterns, putting mothers and newborns at extreme risk. Access to the facility is equally dangerous. The road is barely motorable, forcing pregnant women and emergency patients to travel long distances by motorcycle, increasing the likelihood of complications, delays, and preventable deaths. In its current state, the Nyaguru PHC cannot protect lives, it endangers them. We implore the office of the Gov @HonBago, the @NigerStateNG, @Fmohnigeria, @NphcdaNG, to facilitate the complete rehabilitation, and staffing, of this facility to restore safe healthcare for the community. #FixOurPHCs

🗣️Dear Federal Government, Where is Nigeria’s 2026 Proposed Budget?🤔 We are weeks away from the end of 2025, yet the 2026 proposed budget is nowhere to be found. ❌ No draft. ❌ No presentation. ❌ No explanation. This delay raises serious concerns about transparency, planning, and the government’s commitment to a predictable budget cycle. And this is only one sign that the budget process is off track. In the next post, we highlight nine critical ways Nigeria’s federal budget process has derailed. Nigerians deserve clarity — and we will keep asking. #Whereisthe2026Budget #AskQuestions

In a time like this, we cannot afford silence. Asking questions and demanding the peace we were promised is non negotiable. #PeaceIsNotAPrayerItsADeliverable

Dear Nigerians, Recall the Nigeria’s 2025 Budget is officially titled “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity”, allocating a record 12.54% (N6.57trn) to security. We also have governors’ monthly security votes, and from January to September alone, N5.9trn and N3.8trn have been disbursed to the states and LGAs, respectively, via FAAC. This is well over N16trn meant to restore peace. Yet, as we progress through 2025, the nation continues to witness a devastating toll: over 9,000 lives lost and countless abductions due to insurgency and banditry. Communities have been overrun, and massive displacement of citizens. In light of these facts, we must ask: where is the restoration we were promised? Why does a lasting peace seem increasingly distant? Significant resources have been allocated, but we have yet to see the corresponding results in security and stability. Opaque security votes, untracked FAAC trillions, and zero public reports on how the N6.57trn is spent are major issues here. @NigeriaGov, while we demand that you reacts fast to these incidents, we also demand that the whole system enabling the attacks must also be checked. Securing Peace” cannot remain a slogan while citizens live in fear. Fund community-based early-warning systems with clear tracking. Subject governors’ security votes to legislative oversight and audit. For the citizens, this is our budget, demand receipts from your reps, governors, and LGA chairmen. #Askquestion on how the security vote and FAAC in your state was spent?” No more excuses. Peace is not a prayer, it is a deliverable. Check your State and LGA FAAC allocations here 🫳 me.budgit.org and yourtracka.org and #Askquestions
