1 yr ago, I rescinded my US O1 visa, left my startup, and moved down to Próspera to build a city from scratch. It’s a zone with very special laws, regulations, and taxes. It has raised almost $200M, incl from Coinbase, Peter Thiel, and created 3000+ local jobs 🧵

FUN FACT: of the 33 speakers we had on stage at the Miami Economic Forum, a full day international finance conference hosted by the @EconClubofMiami on February 27, only ONE was not able to make it. But it wasn’t his fault. As he was preparing to leave Honduras, the airline told him and his fellow passengers that there was a problem with the wing. As someone who has spent his life and career as an innovator, he and I both know the wing is kind of essential to the airplane. So his flight was delayed a full day and he didn’t make it to Miami until after the forum ended. I had spent many months in communication with Lonis, who serves as Head of Growth for @ProsperaGlobal, the special economic zone on the island of Roatan in Honduras. Luckily, the founder and President of Prospera was already here in Miami along with another fellow panelist, so the audience didn’t even notice. But I did. When I learned @_Lonis_ was still in Miami the following day, on Saturday, and staying not far from where I now live in Brickell, we made plans to meet up for lunch. While my energy was totally poured into that full day event, I was hoping for a do nothing day, but the great lunch meetup and conversation with Lonis re-energized me and I’m glad we could finally meet in person. He may not have been able to speak at the Miami Economic Forum, but I was privileged to be a one man audience across the table and learn more about his home country of Denmark, his previous experience building a startup and working from Silicon Valley, and his new life living and working from this experimental city in Honduras, where he is now part of the team bringing more people there to live, work, and invest. I am very grateful I get to meet such interesting people — even on my day off. Then again there are no days off when you’re a brand new Brickell tour guide.

Europe needs to get a lot of compute built, or it risks being cut off from the most important technology of the century. There's plenty of demand from American companies to build if a handful of unforced policy errors can be reversed.

New post. American AI companies won’t move to Europe. But we can work to have them deploy compute on European shores. Data centers bring investment, tacit knowledge and some amount of leverage. We should welcome all of those things. The Commission and some national governments have been trying to build data centers themselves. I believe these efforts are flawed—a multilateral institution is not set up to orchestrate the construction of massive infrastructure projects. The Commission’s “AI Gigafactories” are not moving forward, because companies like Siemens and SAP simply do not require that much capacity. But there are entities out there who share some of the values of European nations, and who need more GPUs: American AI companies. Constructing data centers in the United States, where the government threatens use of the Defense Production Act carries a slight risk premium. Building multi-billion compute projects in UAE, a country that gets bombarded with Iranian drones, might also look less attractive. In comparison, Europe is looking better each passing day. Now there’s always the danger of falling into euro-cope. But working to get American companies to build facilities in Europe is far easier, compared to statist compute projects that don’t go anywhere. There’s plenty of obvious work here: make European governments AGI-aware, ease permitting, and shift the Commission from pursuing demand-side to supply-side measures. I lay out more details here: simongrimm.substack.com/p/building-lib…

More subtle-but-useful improvements to Cowork: • The Slack connector is now available to all paid plans, so Cowork can pull in context directly • Connecting Cowork to Chrome is now more automated, requiring fewer clicks and overall more stable (thanks, @gabemulley!) • We've made MCP connections, both local & remote, more stable. Also, MCP apps (@sean_t_strong)! • More stability fixes, like support for custom CA certs for enterprise proxies • Added a toggle to enable extended thinking

AI will produce miracle cures, but only in frontier jurisdictions like Próspera will they actually reach people in need faster than the 10-12 year FDA cycle allows
Andrew Curran@AndrewCurran_

I think the labs are betting on AI medical and biotech discoveries to turn the tide on public sentiment in the West. If the models start producing miracle cures and longevity treatments then everything about the discussion will change. This probably starts happening this year.
