The world is too comfortable with Israel bombing ambulances, hospitals, wiping out entire villages and massacring whole families. This isn’t normal. Future generations will look back at this era in shock and disbelief.

We went for a medical outreach at a youth correctional center, and it happened to be visiting day. While our team lead sorted logistics, I noticed a middle-aged woman who came to see her son. She brought plenty of food and tried to touch his face, but the guard stopped her, no physical contact allowed. The boy, a teenager, was crying the entire time. Not long after, his mother started crying too. Then, a group of them were marched out in uniform for their court appearance. That moment stayed with me.😢 The weight of regret… lives that should be lived in freedom, now confined. Mistakes that can’t be undone. Love that can’t even be expressed through a simple touch. A colleague later mentioned that some of them might even be innocent of the charges that brought them there. May God vindicate them and bring them justice. Parents, please do your best to guide, protect, and stay involved in your children’s lives. The little things matter. The right attention, values, and support can keep them from paths that lead to places like this.💝

Tolerance is the ability to hold that different people have different tastes, preferences, lifestyles, beliefs. That the fact that they are different from my tastes, preferences, lifestyles and beliefs does not make them bad (or good), worse (or better) than me. The opposite of tolerance - intolerance - is a relative of prejudice - an antipathy towards people who are not like me. I can say “I do not like oysters, and perfectly understand that some people do.” In turn, the people who do like them can say “I think oysters are heaven and can perfectly understand that not everyone agrees.” I may not agree with you - and yet I can see what you see. The ability to say “we like different things, yet are fundamentally the same,” the capacity to withstand a taste, preference or lifestyle I don’t agree with, floods me with curiosity, with sympathy and with respect.
