This distinction is crucial because, unfortunately, the Church has made mistakes in the past due to the imperfect and flawed nature of its leaders. Elder Russell M. Ballard emphasized this point, stating, “Our leaders have the best intentions, but sometimes we make mistakes.” It is important to recognize that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not flawed or prone to mistakes. By wholeheartedly following the Savior Jesus Christ and His teachings, individuals can avoid being misled, deceived, or harmed. The phrase “the church is true” is a flawed statement. The Savior specifically stated, “It is the only true AND living church…” (D&C 1:30), highlighting a distinct difference. On the other hand, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is undeniably true and perfect. While the Church (the leaders) strive to do their best, they are not perfect themselves. I emphasize this because we all belong and have access to the Savior’s love and teachings. Let no one make you feel inferior, for you are a child of God! The Lord even told us to be prepared for this! D&C 121:39 states, “We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of ALMOST ALL men, as soon as they get a little authority⁠, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.” Therefore, the next time you feel hurt or offended by something a leader says or does that seems inconsiderate or contrary to the Gospel, take a moment to maintain perspective. Remember that Heavenly Father, our Savior Jesus Christ, love you! And so do I.

Help me with my dilemma. Either Joseph Smith had no agency when it came to polygamy (not a God I want to worship). Or Joseph lied about polygamy being of God and coerced women into marrying him (I don’t care about if he had sex or not) Is there another option I’m not seeing?
