📢 One of my reporters is leaving the Glasgow Times after an incredible 4.5 years. This has created a vacancy in my live team. It is very much entry level, training on the job and suited to a reporter who wants to be on the breaking news live desk.

We met Lamin Kongira yesterday to hear his eye-witness account of what he saw as the fire started. Asked why he ran into the shop, into harm’s way, he said, “It was my duty as a citizen in Glasgow to help my city.” Lamin has asked me to share one specific detail with people: that he’s currently homeless. He says he has been homeless for 6 months and is now living in a hotel. He told me he’s been in Glasgow for over 16 years now, and he used to work with Glaswegians from a horse charity who came to his country of Gambia. He came here and made it his home, but after his marriage ended he lost everything. He asked me to share this because although he doesn’t want any thanks for risking his life to fight the fire, he does want people to understand how widespread homelessness is now in this city he loves.
