Consistency was shaky.
Rules changed based on mood, stress, or who was watching. One day something is forbidden, the next day it’s allowed. That kind of instability creates confusion, anxiety, and people who struggle with boundaries later in life.

Emotional intelligence wasn’t modeled. Feelings were dismissed as “disrespect” or “oversensitivity.” Instead of teaching us how to process emotions, many of us were taught to suppress them. Now we’re adults trying to unlearn emotional shutdown and relearn healthy communication.

Accountability is almost nonexistent. Growing up, many of us were taught that parents are always right—even when they’re clearly wrong. Apologies were rare, and when they came, they were often backhanded: “If I offended you.” No ownership, no reflection.
