Older people come to harm with long waits in Emergency Departments and long waits to be discharged when they are medically ready.

#NHS performance data shows emergency department attendances in England reached 2.3 million in December 2024. 54,207 patients in December waited longer than 12 hours from a decision to admit – we know many of those will have received care in temporary environments, such as corridors or chairs. This is unacceptable and must end. It’s slowing down patient flow through the hospital and impacting waiting times.
