I was the Appropriate Adult in this case. Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC will always be a HERO to me and all victims of child sexual abuse! A judge just refused to jail a girl who stabbed her abuser. Then he offered to pay her fine himself. In 2016, a 15-year-old girl appeared before Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC at Bradford Crown Court, charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. She had stabbed 56-year-old Zabhullah Boota, the man who sexually assaulted her when she was eight. At 14, she went to his home and stabbed him near the heart. He survived after intensive care. The judge refused to imprison her, saying it would be "a disgrace to send a survivor like you to prison." She received a two-year Youth Rehabilitation Order. He also offered to personally pay the mandatory court surcharge — a move that later earned him a formal misconduct finding. The case hit a nerve because her abuser had been convicted in 2010 but walked free with only a community order. The story originally broke in 2016 and has resurfaced multiple times since.
