@irohthecat I’m so glad for you both. We’ve pulled about 10 inches of curly ribbon from the front end of one and 8 inches of twine from the back end of another. Both miracles that we were right there.

She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥 Doe is a tiny snow-kissed beauty with the gentlest soul. 🤍✨ This dainty little lady spends most of her time tucked safely inside her cozy hidey box, quietly watching the world from where she feels secure. The shelter has been a bit too overwhelming for her sensitive heart, but she remains tolerant of gentle touch and patient kindness. Doe is the kind of cat who will need a calm home, soft voices, and someone who understands that love doesn't always arrive loudly - sometimes it arrives in tiny, brave moments. Beneath her shy exterior is a lovely little cat just waiting to feel safe enough to bloom. If you have a quiet home and a gentle heart, Doe may be the delicate companion you've been waiting for. 🕊️. Doe tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻 NEEDS OUT OF SHELTER ASAP – Please RT or pledge, if you can, to save this little one. @AdamsPaulGrimke 💔😿🙏Thank you

🆘🆘 MUFFY (ID 255913), 13 YO, FEMALE– IN QUEENS ACC - came into the shelter as a stray on 5/31/2026. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿 ➡️TBD 6/11/26 ➡️ SENIOR ALERT ➡️ MEDICAL PRIORITY – NEEDS MORE CARE AND ATTENTION THAN THE SHELTER CAN PROVIDE -IN FELINE ICU😱😱😱 ➡️ 🆘🆘 1ST Chance on Emergency Placement List – VERY URGENT – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱 ➡️ 10 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT ➡️ MUFFY IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS - Muffy is a very sweet old tripod kitty that has been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. She also has several other medical conditions (including dental disease) that will require veterinary follow-up. Behaviorally, Muffy is social, easy to handle, and loves petting. This evaluation/diagnosis means that MUFFY will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a sweet, social, older gal, looking for the perfect forever home! Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles! I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat. A volunteer writes: Muffy's the kind of cat you have to meet, the kind who stumbles over her paws in her sincerest efforts to hand you her heart and all I want is for her to get the chance she deserves. Subsequently, I'm more than a little worried that I won't be able to do Muffy justice with just words. Muffy was found in a carrier with another cat abandoned in a carrier outside the shelter gate. A diabetic senior with three paws who might have a little idea of all that she's up against to find a forever home, she's working so much harder than she should to stand out. I want to do everything I can to verify that Muffy's a dream. Heartbreakingly happy to be here, she welcomed me by tucking her head into my hand and gazing up with so much love that I felt compelled to offer her the world. She kneads and circles as she cuddles hoping that someone will accept her and offer her the chance she's been so sweetly hoping and asking for. Muffy interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is suitable for any level of adopter experience. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻 NEEDS OUT OF SHELTER ASAP – Please RT or pledge, if you can, to save this little one. @AdamsPaulGrimke 💔😿🙏Thank you

Give A Shit About Nature
Give A Shit About Nature@giveashitnature·
That “pollinator seed mix” might be planting a problem. A University of Washington study grew out 19 wildflower seed packets and found something wild: Every single packet contained invasive species. Not one or two bad mixes. All 19. Some had 3 invasive species. Some had 13. Eight contained plants considered noxious weeds in at least one state. A third of the packets didn’t list contents at all. And only 5 accurately listed what was inside. The most common species? Bachelor’s button. Pretty? Sure. But absolutely harmful. It can spread into native grasslands and crowd out the plants local insects actually evolved to use. That’s the trap. People buy “wildflower” mixes because they want to help bees and butterflies. But vague seed packets can introduce aggressive nonnative plants that make the problem worse. Better move: Buy region-specific native seed mixes. Use local native plant nurseries. Check with your state native plant society. Look for packets that list every species by name.
