Abdulmonam Eassa has just been recognised in the 2026 World Press Photo Contest for his powerful and haunting coverage of the conflict in Sudan. His work, specifically the series titled "Sudan’s War: A Nation Trapped", won in the Stories category for the Africa region. Working for Le Monde, Eassa managed to document the brutal reality of a war that has been notoriously difficult for journalists to access. One standout image (above) is a portrait of Alhaja Abdallah, a displaced woman from Bara showing severe burn scars from a fire at Al-Mohad Camp in El-Obeid. I had the honor of visiting the photographic exhibition "Our Paths to Damascus" at the National Library in #Damascus. A powerful exhibition which brings together the work of photographers telling the story of the Syrian people during the revolution, between tragedy and hope. Also a moving tribute to the Syrian photographers Anas al-Kharboutli and Mustafa al-Sarout, who paid the highest price to convey the Syrian truth to the world and who were killed on the road to Damascus during the liberation battles. @francediplo @francediplo_AR @mocsyr @abdfree2 @Darebbla #syria #syrie #Damascus #PrixBayeux #WarReporters @BayeuxOfficiel @warmfoundation @SameerAlDoumy @nlibrarydamscus

« La paix sociale est un devoir pour tous […]ceux qui jouent sur la peur communautaire ne pourront pas duper […] la Syrie est une école de coexistence pour le monde […] le régime [d’Assad] n’a cessé de jouer sur ces peurs d’extermination avant que son mensonge ne soit dévoilé»

After 13 yrs of forcibly leaving my city, I left the UK days ago and arrived in Masyaf yesterday where my family, relatives and old friends live. Assad gone and we returned to our warm homes and streets.. we are in a dream.. Syrians made this dream by blood and sacrifice
