Dear @Absa your credit card division seems to go rogue whenever they wish, not following the laws of the country. When my father passed away I froze all his accounts. Your credit card division didn’t care and hounded us until I had to go into a branch to stop it. It took the branch manager 90 minutes to find the collections team leader responsible. A few days ago an executor was appointed and your credit card division was instantly out the blocks appointing a law firm to collect the debt of R2637 by repeatedly calling my 90 year old Mother threatening her on the phone as well as countless emails and sms’s. Why? Laws are clear that outstanding debt has to be collected from the estate account. So why was it handed over to a collections law firm? A firm that will charge a fee for every call, email and sms. Who is paying this bill? Why wasn’t the executor contacted? I tried to handle this privately but had no joy at the law firm. I only got confirmation that ABSA appointed them. I’m reporting this to the bank ombudsman for investigation.
