This was not merely an inconvenience; Chioma was diabetic, and her life-saving insulin was locked inside the room.Recognizing the onset of a medical emergency, Chioma and her roommates approached the hostel mistress, identified as Mrs. Bright, requesting a spare key. Reports indicate that Mrs. Bright refused to grant access unless a fine of 120,000 naira was paid immediately. She allegedly cited hostel policy as the justification for withholding the key, despite the visible and escalating physical distress Chioma was experiencing. For approximately 25 minutes, Chioma reportedly pleaded for help while her health rapidly deteriorated. The hostel mistress remained unmoved by the urgency of the situation. By the time the door was finally opened, Chioma had already lost consciousness. The tragedy was compounded by an apparent systemic failure within the university’s support infrastructure. After being extracted from the hostel, Chioma was rushed to the university medical center.
