Welcome! Please have a seat. I'm a comic book writer and dog dad based in Chicago who loves cheeseburgers, Chainsaw Man, and taking naps. Come for the awesome comics. Stay for the cute dog pics. (And yes, I'm open for freelance work.) linktr.ee/aleams

@MorganK55775 Good question! I think not having a link to a portfolio or making it incredibly difficult to find your sequential work is the easiest way for me to not hire someone. It's definitely my biggest pet peeve.

@aleams This is all gold for what to do. On the flip side, is there a common mistake or a portfolio red flag that's an instant "no" for you, no matter how good the art is?

As a comic writer who hires artists for my projects, I've had the privilege of looking over comic artist portfolios in person and online. I thought it might be helpful to share some of what I look for as I go through portfolios in order to help those of you who are newer.

What a brilliant thread. People often ask me how to get work, and I stumble my way through a bunch of things that I keep in mind for my portfolio, but THIS is a real breakdown of how to create a portfolio.

@TartanNinjaArt Any of the portfolio sites are great in my book! I just ask that the comics work is clearly labeled and easy to find. Instagram is great for capturing attention, but not great as a comics portfolio in my opinion.

@aleams Thanks for this thread and as a colorist would you consider Behance a good platform for this, or should it be a website?

12. AN ACTUAL PORTFOLIO Help me hire you. Have a portfolio with your comic work and make it easy to find. Post the link in your bio, in your seeking work post, or your next Portfolio Day post. Most of us writers and editors are constantly and quietly on the lookout.

11. INTENTION This is one that's not easy to show and plays into both PANEL VARIETY and STYLE, but I'm looking for sequentials designed with intention. Every page is a sequence of visual choices. Show me why I can trust your choices.
