His outreach to the Muslim world, including his historic meeting with Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayeb in Abu Dhabi, underscored his deep commitment to interreligious fraternity. His passing is a profound loss, not only for the Catholic community but for people of all faiths.

He described Islam as a religion of peace when properly understood and often called for mutual respect and cooperation, especially in addressing global issues like poverty, violence, and injustice.

Pope Francis consistently emphasised dialogue, respect, and fraternity between Christians and Muslims. He saw interfaith unity as essential for peace and understanding in the world. In 2017 he said: “We Christians and Muslims are brothers and sisters, and we must act as such.”

Your words were not just lessons—they were keys unlocking the doors of understanding, guiding me closer to the Divine. Your presence was a balm for the heart, a reminder of what it means to walk this path with humility, grace, and steadfast faith.
