Alleged $1.3m, N746.7m: Court Dismisses Sadiya Farouq Application to set Aside Warrant of Arrest Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja on Monday, June 15, 2026 dismissed an application filed by the counsel to a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq seeking the setting aside of the Bench Warrant and Warrant of Arrest issued against the former minister Farouq, alongside two others, Bashir Nura Alkali and Sani Nafiu Mohammed are to face prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, abuse of office and diversion of public funds to the tune of $1.3 million and N746.7 million While delivering his ruling on Monday, the judge held that the defendant has willfully failed to appear in court without a valid reason, maintaining that the law empowers the court when it has been ascertained that the defendant is absent from court without a valid reason to issue a bench warrant of arrest. “The defendant who is fully aware that this is a criminal proceeding has willfully failed to appear in court without a valid reason and the law empowers the court when it has been ascertained that the defendant is absent from court without a valid reason to issue a bench warrant of arrest. There is nothing in the exhibit explaining why the defendant who has mere arthritis and heart disease cannot appear before the court. Is it that there are no medical facilities in Nigeria? I am convinced that the 1st defendant is trying to hide behind her fingers, by raising bogus excuses. It is important that the applicant be reminded that this is a criminal matter and not a civil one and there is an approach to its proceedings. By all legal considerations, I am of the opinion that there is no merit in this application, I so hold” he said. Reacting, counsel to the prosecution, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN appreciated the judge for a well-considered ruling, he further reminded the court of the undertaking by defence counsel A.A Ibrahim, SAN to produce the 1st defendant , urging the court that it should not be taken for granted, but be enforced. “My lordship, for a senior counsel to make an undertaking which is reflected in your lordship`s ruling, we crave your lordship to give effect to that undertaking by A.A Ibrahim SAN to produce the defendant. If you look at the so- called medical report attached, it is only asking for the period of six and eight weeks with which the defendant will be arrested and that the eight weeks had expired on June 9, 2026. I plead with your lordship that the court should not take the undertaking for granted. On our part, we have decided to give effect to the arrest of the first defendant, we also ask the counsel to the first defendant to cooperate and produce his client on the next adjournment to avoid a coercive power” he said Responding, A.M Lawal who stood in for A.A Ibrahim, SAN urged the judge to allow Ibrahim to be present in court to respond to the EFCC’s application on the issue of the undertaking. Justice Onwuegbuzie granted his request stating that Ibrahim should be allowed to be in court to defend himself on the issue of undertaking. The matter was adjourned to July 2, 2026 for arraignment

Africa's future food security will depend not only on what we grow, but on what we produce. We are pleased to announce Africa Finance Corporation's support for a US$7 billion expansion programme that will significantly increase Dangote Fertiliser's production capacity in Nigeria and establish a major new fertiliser manufacturing platform in Ethiopia. The expansion represents a major step towards strengthening agricultural productivity, reducing dependence on imported fertiliser, supporting farmers, and improving food security across the continent. At a time when population growth, climate pressures, and global supply chain disruptions continue to challenge food systems worldwide, Africa must build the industrial capacity required to support its own development. This investment is about more than fertiliser production. It is about creating the foundations for long-term agricultural resilience, economic growth, and greater self-sufficiency across Africa. Together with partners such as Africa Finance Corporation, we remain committed to building world-class industrial platforms that address critical challenges and unlock opportunities for future generations. #DangoteFertiliser #FoodSecurity #Industrialisation #AfricaFinanceCorporation #DangoteGroup

Lagos hotel, 3 other properties forfeited by drug kingpins auctioned at N6.1billion …It’s a clear message that cartels won’t be allowed to enjoy proceeds of their criminal trade, says Marwa A Lagos hotel and three other properties seized from drug kingpins by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and forfeited to the Federal Government through court processes have been auctioned for the sum of Six Billion One Hundred and Forty-Eight Million Nine Hundred and Sixty-Four Thousand Naira (N6,148,964,000.00) only. This was the outcome of a competitive bid process for the sale of eight assets forfeited by drug barons in parts of the country. While bidders who offered above reserved prices emerged winners of four of the listed properties, bids for four others failed because none offered up to the reserved prices. Announcing the winning bids at the bid opening ceremony attended by representatives of ICPC, Civil Society Organisations, auctioneers and bidders at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Monday 15th June 2026, the Head of Asset Recovery and Management Unit of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Tamarantare Francis Ali-Bozi declared Tope Ojo and Tunde Olonishakin estate firm as winner of a six-floor hotel located in Victoria Island Lagos with N5.9 billion offer. Other winners include FSS Limited which won a property at Lekki Phase 1 Lagos for N219,500,000.00; A-BNB Global Innovations Limited which bid emerged winner of a block of flats located in Ejigbo Lagos for N104 million and Fazeen Global Link Limited which won a property in Akure, Ondo state for N29,360,000.00. In his remarks at the ceremony, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) who was represented by the Agency Secretary, Shadrach Haruna noted that “public auctions such as this serve a broader national purpose. Beyond generating revenue for the Government, they reinforce public confidence in the rule of law, demonstrate accountability in the management of recovered assets, and send a clear message that criminal proceeds will not be allowed to remain in the hands of those who seek to profit from the misery and destruction caused by illicit drugs.” He assured that “the Agency remains steadfast in its determination to strengthen Nigeria’s asset recovery framework and to ensure that recovered assets are managed and disposed of in a manner that is transparent, lawful and beneficial to the public interest”, adding that “We shall continue to pursue drug traffickers, dismantle criminal networks, recover the proceeds of crime and uphold the rule of law without fear or favour.” Speaking on the integrity of the process, the NDLEA boss stated that “to further enhance transparency and public confidence in the process, representatives of sister law enforcement and regulatory agencies, civil society organisations, the media, prospective bidders and members of the public have been invited to witness the bid-opening exercise. The bids received for each lot will be evaluated against the approved reserve price, and the highest responsive bidder who satisfies all requisite conditions shall be declared the successful bidder. The entire process will be conducted openly, fairly and transparently in the presence of all attendees.” “The process culminating in today’s auction has been conducted in strict compliance with the provisions of the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act, 2022, the Public Procurement Act, 2007, and all other applicable laws, regulations and guidelines. Consistent with the Agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability and due process, all assets earmarked for auction were professionally valued by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the designated official valuer of the Federal Government.

BREAKING NEWS Troops Rescue Wife of Retired General Rabe Abubakar in Katsina, Intensify Offensive Against Bandits Nigerian Army troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have rescued Mrs. Abubakar, wife of retired Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, following a deadly encounter with armed bandits in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. Military sources exclusively told Zagazola that the operation, conducted under Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, followed intelligence-led offensives launched in Matazu and adjoining communities after the abduction incident involving the retired senior officer and his family. According to the sources, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga village during a search-and-rescue operation, forcing the armed group to flee after coming under heavy military pressure. “The bandits shot her and fled when we made contact at Tunga village. We have rescued Mrs. Abubakar. She is bleeding, we have given her first aid and are moving her for urgent medical attention,” a military source said. The source confirmed that the rescued victim was immediately stabilised by troops on the ground before being evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment. Military authorities said follow-up operations have been intensified in the area, with troops sustaining a coordinated pursuit of fleeing bandits and suspected kingpins believed to be responsible for the attack and earlier abduction. They added that the ongoing clearance operation under Operation CLEAN SWEEP III will continued until all criminal hideouts are dismantled. Security sources assured that the military remains committed to tracking down those responsible and ensuring they are brought to justice.
