Warga kota kecil ini nekat memilih seekor kucing jalanan jadi wali kota selama 20 tahun penuh karena muak melihat kelakuan politisi manusia.
Tahun 1997, penduduk Talkeetna di Alaska lagi kesel banget sama calon wali kota manusia yang ada. Sebagai bentuk protes lucu, mereka kompak nulis nama Stubbs, seekor anak kucing jalanan tak berekor yang sering nongkrong di toko kelontong.
Di kertas suara, Stubbs menang telak dan resmi jadi wali kota kehormatan.
Alih-alih duduk di kantor mewah, sang wali kota berbulu ini memerintah dari atas meja kasir toko kelontong. Jadwal kerjanya simpel tapi menggemaskan: tiap sore minum air catnip dari gelas anggur, lalu nerima puluhan turis yang sengaja datang jauh-jauh cuma buat elus perutnya.
Meski nggak pernah bikin undang-undang atau bangun jalan, masa kepemimpinan Stubbs bikin kota itu makin ramai dikunjungi wisatawan dan suasananya jauh lebih damai. Dia menjabat selama 20 tahun penuh sampai akhir hayatnya, membuktikan bahwa kadang pemimpin terbaik memang yang nggak bisa korupsi.
Gila ya? Manusia sudah muak sama politisi, sampai-sampai pilih kucing jadi wali kota, dan ternyata hasilnya jauh lebih baik.
Lo kira kalau di Indonesia ada yang nekat nyalonin kucing jadi kepala daerah, bakal menang juga nggak ya? Atau malah bakal jadi wali kota terbaik sepanjang sejarah?
