@TaxExpenditures @guardian What do you mean that "they" are exempt from VAT? Their major source of income (fees) is exempt, but some have trading income that would (subject to meeting the registration threshold) be standard rated, and of course they aren't exempt from PAYING it on purchases.

The UK has about 2,600 private schools (for-profit and charitable), and they are all exempt from VAT. These tax breaks are estimated to be worth more than £3bn a year. Read more at @guardian.
